I just drove from Montreal to Toronto and my EVIC is claiming my average fuel consumption was 8.5L/100km. That's 27mpg in Freedom Units.

I know the V6 is a tad more economical than the HEMI, but is 27mpg possible? The weather was very warm, I made sure I always kept my tank full, and just had a service.

It's probably correct for as correct as the evic can be... I've had 25-26 on mine on a nice day traveling over long flat distance.

On the next couple of tanks hand calculate as well to compare. I know my EVIC reads anywhere from 1-4 mpg high all the time.

Damn sweet mileage! Last weekend in my Hemi, going just 100 km/hr I was able to get as good as 11.3 L/100km Or about 22 USmpg and I was pretty damn happy with that!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the issue with hand calcs is that you can never go from completely full to completely empty and if you want to use half a tank as a marker, you might well find the tank needle isn't quite correct.

Or am I wrong?

Maybe that's a Canadian thing ;)

I was sticking to 100kn/hr for my trip. Too many potholes in Quebec and I'm practicing for when I get my trailer and annoy other drivers by going slow ;)

I'll generally get in the 11s around town. High 9s and mid-10s for the highway.

You can hand calc whenever you want, doesn't have to be a complete tank but you do want to put some miles on it (Don't drive 5 miles and try and check it). It's just simple math.

Miles driven divided by gallons used (how many gallons did it take to top it back off)

If you use the imperial gallon it sounds even better at 33mpg. LOL!!

Problem with hand calc is that it is not possible to fill the tank to *exactly* the same level each time... so your estimate of fuel usage will be off.

But it's pretty darn close, A lot closer then the EVIC will be. I fill mine the exact same way every time so my readings are consistent.

The evic is simply a feel good reading. I have owned 6 Chrysler vehicles with the evic and they were always off by at least 1 mpg. Hand calculating is the only way for accuracy.
