Idea for retaining OEM microphone

So I've been brainstorming ideas for how to wire in the factory mic to an aftermarket headunit. I see that people have already tried directly wiring it to the 1/8" port on the receiver and that didn't work. So I thought maybe the mic is not getting enough power, has anybody tried putting a preamp between the mic and the headunit?

I'm thinking something like this

The mic appears to be just 2 wires, so this could theoretically work. I wish I could find the specs for the microphone but I doubt they're listed anywhere. I may need to experiment.

If you get this to work. You’ll be the man. I hate having the aftermarket mic wish I could still use the factory mic.
