I was crawling around under my truck for the first time, and noticed that the bottom of the in-floor storage were just fabric. That doesn't seem right to me, wouldn't it get wrecked pretty quick? -- Or am I missing something?

I believe you are looking at some sound insulation there. There is a plastic box inside that cover.
