I wanted a hard folding cover for my new Ram, and after searching the reviews and comments I chose the Undercover Flex. For me the determining factor was this cover doesn't rest on the cab when fully opened, and it had all of the other features I wanted.

The cover arrived yesterday, and I installed it last night. It took me about 40 minutes total, and I was just about finished when a massive thunder storm came rolling in. It poured for a while and then rained again heavily overnight. I had read about "some" water getting in, and I was very curious to see how much water actually got in. I have not installed a tailgate seal kit yet, but that will be done shortly.

This morning I checked the bed, and had one small amount of water on one side (see pic). There is one spot where the rubber edge doesn't sit quite flush, so I still need to fine tune the rail adjustments (see 2nd pic). The stock plastic bed rail covers make the adjustment of the cover rails a little tricky, but with some patience and fine tuning I don't think this will be an issue. After that much rain I'm very happy with the cover.

Here are my initial overall thoughts/comments:

1. The cover is very well packaged. It arrived with the typical UPS scrapes and dings on the box, but everything inside was perfect. They do a good job when they box this at the factory.

2. The instructions are pretty good but somewhat general and not model specific, and I would give them a solid 8 out of 10. The only thing missing from the instructions was where the extra rubber weather strip goes and how best to place it. I knew that strip went along the front (cab side) of the bed, but wasn't sure where exactly to place it to get the best weather tight install. I laid the cover on the bed and placed it in what looked like the correct position, then crawled under the cover and looked at the front edge to see where the gap was and placed it based on that. It would be helpful for them to include some tips or best practices with the instructions on how to get the most weather tight fit.

3. The build quality is very good, and this thing looks like it will hold up over time and provide the protection I was looking for.

So far I would say this gets a 9 or 9.5 out of 10 for me.

Notice below where the rubber trim doesn't sit flush.

No. The pictures I posted are the only ones I have so far (I just took them this morning). I can take a few pics of it open tonight and will post them for you.

That looks real sharp! I have the Undercover classic and absolutely love it. Undercover makes good stuff.

I would love to see some pics of it opened. :)

DSW, thanks for posting this. I saw my first Undercover Flex today and liked what I saw. I set out to do some research tonight and it seems you've been quite pleased with yours. How is it holding up a year later?

The cover is holding up really well. This thing is built well and I open and close it regularly, and it shows no real signs of wear. I have used it with the cover in the open propped up position while hauling large items on quite a few occasions and it works well and just as they advertise it.

My only issue so far has been the paint chipping on the top cross bars in a few spots, but that was really my fault by being too aggressive over the winter while trying to clear the heavy snow and ice. We had the worst winter here in Eastern PA last year and the cover didn't skip a beat and survived all the snow and ice mother nature could throw at it.

I would buy this again without hesitation, and can highly recommend it.

Good luck with your research and purchase and post pics if you end up getting one and install it. If you have any questions or I can help in any way, please feel free to PM me.

Dave

one other additional comment - I had planned to get a tailgate seal kit, but after spending some time to adjust the rails the amount of water that comes in is so small I never bothered to buy a tailgate seal kit.

I ordered one of these yesterday. I was debating between this and the Undercover lux painted to match. The Lux looks nice but I think it takes away from the truck not being able to haul tall items and I really don't have anywhere to store a cover if I were to take it off. I also looked at Bak Flip but in the end the three year warranty and the fact that it doesn't rest against the cab sold me on the flex.

Good luck with it! Post some pics when you get it installed.

Looks like you had a bed liner, where did your drain tubes go to? Front side of bed or side? I'd have to drill them out, so I want to check.

I have the factory spray in liner, so I just cut a slit in the rubber plugs in the bed corners and inserted the drain tubes there.

Do you have pics, that would help me a ton. I have no knowledge of what the rubber plugs are located. My liner is after market and they sprayed every hole over. Thanks in advance.

I have spray in too but the slits in the bed still allow water to drain. Look in the front of the bed where the cab wall meets the bed floor.

These are in addition to the drain plugs. The slits may not help your tubes but just wanted to let you know they exist...just look for daylight through the bed.

To the OP..you made a good move NOT putting the tailgate seal on the bottom. The water that enters at the tailgate needs to escape.

Ok, So I've installed mine and it does not sit as flush as yours and I have more drainage issues, and it seems to be because the cover itself does not sit as flush. Here are some pics.
