Mine have only been in for about a month or so, so I don't know about longevity yet.

It looks like the regular Sylvania brand is the only version that is offered. I tried looking for the ZXE's, SilverStars, and Ultra's and there is nothing available. I think I'm going to pick up some this weekend for the low's and the 9012 lights for the fog's.

Does Philips offer anything? Their Intense White and Xtreme Vision ones looked kinda cool.

I saw one Phillips version, but I think it was only the basic bulb.

H9's are actually a pretty rare bulb, I don't think any of the big manufacturers have them in any "high performance" line up. I have only been able to find the eBay special ones, or just "regular" style in stores. My Wifes car takes H9's for the highs so I have been down the road before of trying to find nice ones, but to no avail..

As for longevity, they have half the lifespan of an H11. I think someone in this thread already covered this as the H9 and H11 are the same exact bulb the only difference is that the H9 is overpowered (by 10 watts), so with this there is a trade off. However, as with anything you could get longer out of it than normal depending on use, but don't be surprised if they blow sooner that you expect.

EDIT: looks like PIAA makes an H9 in their "Extreme White Plus" series: http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-70955-Xt...12?ie=UTF8&qid=1425566078&sr=8-12&keywords=H9, But as usual these bulbs are expensive as hell and I personally have had bad experience with the life span of PIAA bulbs.. I would not buy them, but its an option for some if you want to go out on a limb..

It's my understanding that the dual headlights are a different bulb.

Duals use a double filament bulb like a 9007, or a 9004. You can only use an H9 with a H11 setup, same goes with a 9005 in a 9006 set up. Your best bet with duals is to either get quads or get some over powered bulbs. If you get HIDs you will have to spring for ones with a high beam option or your going to loose your high beams.

On another note. i did switch all my lights over, I did 9005's in my fogs and H9's in my lows, I want to say it was a 25-30% increase in light. good mod.

I used one of these btw.. took 4 seconds to snip off the guide..

I havent heard of anyone upgrading the 9005s in the high beam...

use H9, 9011 and put the 9005 in the fogs.

Radical difference, much brighter and whiter.
the upgrade, for low beams, is actually a hi beam brightness 65 watt bulb but since there is a glare shield, it does nto affect oncoming raffic as being too bright.

the 9011 is a 65watt also, not the standard 55w hi beam so it is brighter., Go with Philips xtremes or jut plain Philips, they work well.

9005 can be used in eh fog, pretty sure

luck to yo

I installed the HIR1s inplace of the 9005s.
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-9011-...1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427166614&sr=8-1&keywords=Hir1

You have to modify one of the outside guides but they work great.

Dave

The 9005 is a 65w bulb, the standard low is 55w. The 9011 is a 9005 with different tabs, however the HIR1 (not a standard 9011) is a 65w bulb with a reflective coating and shaped bulb to reflect and emit more light

HIR1 (9011) vs Standard 9011

AUTO_005.jpg

It sounds like you guys got the wrong 9011's

EDIT: apon doing more research it looks like things have changed over the years. The Toshiba HIR1 is no longer made, this was the globe looking bulb. From what I understand this "globe" paired with reflective material is what made it "infrared". I dont see this on the Philips 9011 which makes me wonder if it is in fact a HIR at all and they made it just because the base will fit the older application. I can tell you I have used the Toshibia HIR1's and they are much much brighter than any standard bulb. Im curious to see a side by side with the Philips 9005 and 9011. From what I see they should be identical, if the 9011 is still brighter than this is news to me, and excuse my ignorance :)

Has anyone tried the Piaa extreme white H9's ? My only concern with with modification is how much added heat is being put into the housing ? Any cracking or discoloration? 10 watts doesn't seam like a lot but that's added heat and added strain on the harness itself. Just wondering is all. My quad non projectors on my 14 dodge are pretty pitiful. Im thinking of using the Piaa's but they are a $95 bucks a pair up here in Saskatchewan.

How's the long term life on the "replacement" bulbs? H9, 9011, & 9012?

2014 Ram 2500 I upgraded from the factory lights and went with the silverstar set for highs and lows PITA putting them in but work great. The only thing I am not sure about is after the switch (upgrade) my lights now stay on all the time now like day light running lights

Not the same on the 2014, Remove the 2 bolts for the headlight assembly 1 on top and 1 on bottom next to grill. Then in the wheel well there is a flap you open then reach in pull down the white plastic piece it will release the headlight assembly. Then just wiggle it around until in comes out be careful not to brake the plastic bolt hole tabs off.

Thanks for adding this bit of information. I am sure that those who own newer trucks will appreciate it.

To add to this. I just did mine tonight and it required a lot of effort to push the headlight out after removing the two bolts and clip. It was to the point I was looking to see if there was another bolt holding it in. With enough effort it did push out though. I was hoping to not have to pull the grill but I ended up having to do it anyway.
