I have reading the posts on this subject and they are a great help, but I recently purchased a complete tailgate assembly from a friend who has a 2013 1500 that has the backup camera and power lock in the tailgate. I have every thing from the handle to the harness that clips into the back of the bed. I have a 2009 1500 crew cab with the 730n RER radio with nav and need to see if there is any additional harnesses that I might need. My truck did not have a tailgate lock or camera in the tailgate originally. I am attaching photos of what I purchased. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do know that I will have to have the truck flashed to work once everything is installed. I am mainly concerned about what additional harnesses I may need and the part numbers.

Same here.

For the 2013+ trucks, we have found that getting the parts piece by piece, ie from a friends tailgate, are more expensive than the kit. Primarily because some of the missing harnesses can't be bought except with the complete kit.
Adding the 2 missing lock wires all the way to the front of the truck will be a separate issue to figure out.

FYI,
For your 2009 RAM, here is the relevant info from the official Mopar e-Shop (where I find official directions) and AllMoparParts.com

Mopar e-Shop
Rear View Camera, Uses Production Radio for Monitor @ Mopar e-shop
PN: 82211184
Directions Link
$293

AllMoparParts
Ram 1500 Back Up Camera Kit 2009-2012
PN: 82211184
$249

The TechAuthority website will also help you with the wiring, but it will only show you what you have, not what you are missing. Best bet is to find a VIN from another 2009 truck that has the features you are missing (tailgate lock) and compare it with your truck's wiring.

Hopefully, someone who has done this on your model year truck will stop by and clear this up for you.

2009 didn't have any harnesses installed for the auto locking tail gate nor for the camera if it wasn't originally equipped with a camera.

You will need all the harnesses (2) 1 for the lock and 1 for the camera from the tailgate forward.

I would see if you could get a cheaper price by just buying the harnesses from FCA rather than the kits The kits will have everything you already have in the tailgate.

I installed both a camera and an auto locking tailgate on my 2009.

So you have any part numbers, links, and other info for the guy?

I was looking at the instructions for both kits and that is what I was getting. If you can get the part numbers for the (2) harnesses, that would be great. I have looked at both kits and the price would be about $450. I have the knowledge to do the wiring myself since I used to do mechanical work for a living and built competition NMRO trucks many years ago. I would prefer to get the harnesses to keep it closer to OEM and save the time. Working during the day and going to college at night limits my time. I thank everyone for all of the help.

As I stated, go to the dealer, FCA, go to the parts counter and talk to the parts person he has the books and information, this is your best option for these parts. Maybe check the online vendors on this site for a Mopar parts dealer maybe they can help you.

I did mine 4 or 5 years ago and don't have the information or the part numbers for the harnesses. The instructions never listed individual part numbers. Perhaps I should have said I bought both kits with all the parts, Locking tail gate and reverse camera to install.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

After reading many of the instructions for installing the backup camera and power lock, I agree that you will have to buy the 2 kits just to get the harnesses unless you wanted to make them. My truck did not come with anything but a handle on the tailgate and it does not lock. I am going to work on getting the kits and will report once I get them installed. Again thanks to all for the help.

Back when I added the factory camera to my 2010, the camera/tailgate handle and wiring harness kit from mopar only cost me $265.

The backup camera kit is around $265, but to add the power lock to the tailgate requires another kit. I have ordered the power tailgate lock kit (PN 82211668AB) and it should be here by Monday. I will order the backup camera kit (PN 82211184) after my next payday. I will then start the install and will take pictures and document the install.

Pretty sure this is the part number for the backup camera harness - 68039326AC

For the power lock, you only need two wires with just the connector on the actuator end, spliced into the vehicle wiring on the other, Should be easy enough to make you own

Does anyone know if the camera from 2013 Ram 1500 work with the RER radio? I know they are different parts and I have all of the harnesses. Just not sure if it would work or not. I have ordered the backup camera kit for the 2009 Ram 1500 and waiting for it to arrive just in case.

Not sure on the camera , to my knowledge it's 2013+ only .

You've got me thinking on this camera ...
I've heard several people say " a camera is a camera " anyways. ..

I'm going off of memory here so this is my best shot , it's been about 10 months since I installed my OEM kit on my 14 Ram ...

If I remember correctly there was 6ea wires going to the camera .
1 pwr , 2 ground , 3 vid+ output 4 vid- output , 5 shield wire and 6 a tiny gauge light Blue wire that ultimately routed to the BCM , this wire was purple @ the BCM end . This wire was for the active grid lines via the sterringwheels clockspring .
Maybe you could use this camera provided you wired it properly. You would likely not use the tiny light blue wire .

Hope this helps !

After looking at the wiring diagrams for both cameras I did not find a difference besides the plugs.

If you ran pwr to the run control relay wire , and blanked off the Lin Bus CBC3 wire and properly hooked up the rest it would likely work ? Your pwr would come from the trailer reverse cicuit .

Well, I have ordered my camera kit for my truck. I am going to sell the stuff I bought originally on here or ebay. After looking at the differences, it is just better to buy the two kits and be done with it. Thank to all for the information.

I have listed the items I have from the 2013 tailgate for sale on Ebay, but since I have not reached 50 posts I am not able to post them here. If someone is interested in these items, they can PM me and I can give them any information they might need. I would post the link here, but I do not want any problems with the forum admins. I hope to start my install this weekend and I will take pictures and do a complete report on the install.
