I have often heard (and seen) on this forum you guys talking about rust issues on the second gen rams, especially around the rockers, wheel wells, and cab corners. However, I live in south Florida, and there are quite a few second gens on the road around here, and I very rarely see one with rust through. I live in a coastal town right near the ocean too, so rust is often an issue as the rain constantly brings salt from the air down on the roads and cars in the form of rain and dew. Most of the rust I see is on smaller or older cars though. Trucks, even the supposedly rust prone second gen rams, are usually surprisingly rust free, even old beaters that you can tell have been used as work trucks and not necessarily been taken the best care of. The paint peels really bad on any of the chrysler products of teh second gen era, but this usually just results in a light coating of surface rust on the hoods and tops of the fenders. Are there any other folks on the forum who live where the old second gen rams don't rust much? Anyone looking for body parts for a restore job, I would absolutely recommend browsing for parts from some south Florida used parts dealers if you could afford the shipping. I would imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to locate rust free body panels in my area.

The 2nd gens rust badly in certain parts of the body due to road salt/mud build up, just just salt water. I've heard the doors can collect water in the corners and rot out though, but my 76 did the same thing.
