Ive been tuning sport bikes for awhile now and I could NEVER write a tune for a mass amount of even the same bike and make the same consistent power as the one I tuned on. IF I HAD TO to turn a profit I would imagine I would leave a margin of error there. That being said, Diablo is out of south florida, humidity capital of the world(I am also in SO Fla). All of this into account I would imagine they too have left a margine there and I would believe I am not damaging anything by running 89 octane on the 93 octane tune. From experience lower octane makes more power or so the rule says the lowest you can get without detonation all things being equal in the fuel as far as oxygen and cooling.

I basically said all that for those people who are going to respond that you should NEVER run a lower octane then the tune is made for. Who says that tune was boderline? I doubt diablo is handing out tunes that are teetering on the edge. On a tune where you've taken that specific vehicle and dialed in the fuel and timing untill detonation and backed off a couple degrees I see the said being true. I just got the intune earlier today and tried the 87 octane tune just because I had 87 octane in it, maybe 1/4 tank. I filled up with 89 and ran the 93 octane tune and I have to say that it is a much improved feel. The truck feels smooth and as far as data logging goes it is not getting any knock in the current 70* weather. Has anyone experimented with this?

Also it seems theres a typo on diablos website. The 2013-2014 ram says 87 octane tune gives 10hp 25 torque. The previous two years says 10/15 and the higher octane numbers are consistent with all years...

I would not run anything lower than what the tune calls for personally, I've heard this from both Diablo and CMR tuners who know what they're talking about.

on the move..

Running a lower octane wont hurt these newer trucks because as soon as it starts to detonate, the computer is going to pull timing to protect the motor. This pulled timing translates into a loss of power and fuel mileage though. I do not recommend anyone running a lower grade fuel than what their tune calls for.

I'm surprised you are not seeing any knock though. I have customers running 89 and 91 octane on the canned Diablo 87 tune, and they are still getting a slight amount of knock retard.

Looks like i have to do some logging. Running 87 octane on a 89 pre custom tune. Next step is the Hemifever tune in a few days or so.

Not sure of the quality of fuel here but it seems pretty good. I logged last night and the only knock I was getting was when I was cruising at 50 or 60 when mds kicked on. It was saying 1-3* on the ST bank. Today however in hot weather the highest it read was 6* on ST and 1*on LT. I could hear the rattle though. Just for safety I put the 87 tune back in. But that tune in this weather is also showing a couple degrees. Especially when you punch it from a cruise it instantly reads 4* and goes down as the rpms go up. Also when you accelerate moderately from 45 or so in low rpm. Haven't tried to see what it says stock yet.
