Ive been tuning sport bikes for awhile now and I could NEVER write a tune for a mass amount of even the same bike and make the same consistent power as the one I tuned on. IF I HAD TO to turn a profit I would imagine I would leave a margin of error there. That being said, Diablo is out of south florida, humidity capital of the world(I am also in SO Fla). All of this into account I would imagine they too have left a margine there and I would believe I am not damaging anything by running 89 octane on the 93 octane tune. From experience lower octane makes more power or so the rule says the lowest you can get without detonation all things being equal in the fuel as far as oxygen and cooling.
I basically said all that for those people who are going to respond that you should NEVER run a lower octane then the tune is made for. Who says that tune was boderline? I doubt diablo is handing out tunes that are teetering on the edge. On a tune where you've taken that specific vehicle and dialed in the fuel and timing untill detonation and backed off a couple degrees I see the said being true. I just got the intune earlier today and tried the 87 octane tune just because I had 87 octane in it, maybe 1/4 tank. I filled up with 89 and ran the 93 octane tune and I have to say that it is a much improved feel. The truck feels smooth and as far as data logging goes it is not getting any knock in the current 70* weather. Has anyone experimented with this?
Also it seems theres a typo on diablos website. The 2013-2014 ram says 87 octane tune gives 10hp 25 torque. The previous two years says 10/15 and the higher octane numbers are consistent with all years...
