After paying a locksmith 100 bucks for about 15 minutes of work I decided I should get a spare key... I decided to put that key in a place where I need to open my tailgaite to reach (I have a tonneau cover).

So my question is is there a way to stop the tailgate from locking with the rest of the doors?

You could probably just disconnect the solenoid for the lock inside the tailgate.

I thought it was in the settings menu on your screen. Assuming you have the big radio, if not then idk

Don't you have a key in your remote?

I have the 5 inch touch screen and thought the same thing, but I just went out and double checked and no luck.

If yours is the same as mine. You can unplug the wiring harness to the tailgate (I was given a plastic cover, that snaps in place, if I ever chose to do this).

Open the tailgate and look between it and the frame, you should see the wiring harness.

Another option is getting a magnetic key box and putting it underneath your truck somewhere.

I do, but that key doesn't do me any good if the whole FOB is locked inside.

Ah. Been there, done that. I always work out of town so I just keep a spare key for the truck and my camper in my pocket. I leave the 2nd FOB in my center console just in case something happens to my main one. Easy for the truck to get stolen, but if I'm 8 hours from the house I can't exactly have my wife run me the extra key.

I think that is a feature of the keyless entry (touch the door handles and it unlocks). If you have to use the fob to unlock the doors, you don't have the wireless module for the key fobs, and the truck cannot detect whether the fob is inside or outside of the cab. No detection ability = able to lock your keys in the cab. At least, that is my understanding.

Makes complete sense haha.

I am confused. I think what you want to do is hide a remote in the bed of your truck. So as some one else suggested take the key out of your remote and put it in your wallet and hide your remote in your bed. That key will open your tailgate.
