Hi,

Was playing with 4x4 last night and turning off ESC so I can play in the snow.

Truck goes in and out of all 4x4 modes just fine (stopped, running, neutral)

I go to 4lo, switch back to 4hi/2wd/auto and the light changes indicating it changed BUT as I go back in gear and start to move its still is 4lo for a few feet, then Bang and out of 4lo.

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

With the 44-44, as well as many newer cases, it is recommended to shift into and out of 4lo while rolling @ 2to3 MPH, with the transmission in neutral.

This shifting procedure allows the splines in the case to mesh more easily/quickly.

ah, got it.
Thanks.

I miss my 08' powerwagon, that was simple, clutch in and pull the lever to 4 low lol.

Sometimes 4low takes a little movement to get out of low and into high. Its a jolt but no less its not abnormal.

You had a Standard transmission in a Power Wagon? Didn't even know that was an option....learn something new everday.

Common sense isn't...nor is common decency.

It's normal.. It a huge gear change between 4lo and 4hi.

Yup, had one of the last Laramie 6speed PW's built.

Basically the same G-56 as the cummins but tweaked for a hemi.

Was geared like a damn tractor, 80:1 in 1st gear/4lo.

On a side note, I can finally play in the snow!!!!

ESC is off enough in 4hi to 4wd drift lol

The PW is still the 4wd drift king for me though.

I just drove around a snow covered parking lot in my '17 with the 44-44 and felt like traction control was killing performance of the xfer case itself. Even with it "off" I could see the traction control light flashing when I lost grip. Even after 1 winter already I dont think Im used to how the 44-44 should work.

While I never get stuck, it always feels like the truck wants to drift (even once the front wheels are pulling). That causes me to back out of the throttle because thats what Ive always done, which unlocks the 4WD clutches and now I have no grip again.

While I loved the full lock of the 4wd in the PW I have no major complaints on the 44-44 for my needs.

The truck slips and slides just enough for me in normal use, I never feel out of control in 4wd auto or 4wd lock.

I actually like the way it locks and un-locks in 4wd auto.

Now if I was doing any real offroad I don't know that I would feel the same.

Yeah, Im not a fan of it but I think its just the habits Im used to not being compatible with how the case works. At one point I thought mine was defective, but while I dont like the fact the rear end slips a bit, the truck has never gotten stuck (and Im pretty sure I would have been stuck a few times if only the rears were working).

I think I just need to tune myself out of immediately backing out of the throttle if the rear end moves a bit.

All the nannies take some getting used to. Remember driving vechiles without antilock brakes. That took some time to get a feel for. Traction control still messes with me sometimes. I turn it off on my 2500 when in 4x4 but it’s not until I get that weird feeling from truck and I remember I did t turn it off

Yeah, as much as I love my RAM I long for my old (2001) Frontier. Nothing electronic there. Manual shift into 4H or 4L, no traction control, barely had ABS, still had drum brakes in the back.

I feel like the traction control in the RAM interferes with 4WD and even the LSD. Really wish there was a good way t completely disable it.
