what is the difference between the k&n aircharger (plastic) or the 77 series(metal). If you look at the K&N website the dyno results are 15 for the plastic and 10 for the metal. The tubes are the same diameter, the filter is the same part number? but the chrome one that supposedly gives less power is more expensive? it doesnt make sense to me.
now i see how the chrome would be more expensive due to the process to make it, but how does what the tube is made out of make a HP difference?

I like the plastic intakes since they don't get as hot and don't make the air temp any hotter. Don't know why one makes more hp then the other though.

More heat caused by the metal=less power? Idk, but that seems reasonable

Not 100% sure on the 4th gens but the FIPK kit thats plastic for the 3rg gens is a bigger tube and bigger filter compaired to my metal 77 series.

i think the plastic looks better anyway. and if your rite ODJ if the tube is bigger it would make sense. but i found a spec sheet online..somewere....and it was the same size. imma stick with the plastic though

if its the same size tube, my guess would be the chrome retains heat from the engine and the plastic is less

I think it is heat related as well and I went with the polished because I feel it looks better. Had I known before I bought it that it made less power than plastic I would have done the plastic though.

Yup, metal just soaks up the heat, and heats up the incoming air = not what you want.

Plastic will stay cooler, and in essence, keep your incoming air temps cooler, which = more power/better mpg.

This is on the K&N 63 Series Performance Intake description ,K&N 63 Aerodynamically engineered non-metallic rotationally molded tube for lower air temperature and less intake sound. The 77 just says better acceleration and appearance. Also guaranteed horsepower on both :)

I just had the same conversation with a guy at work. You are basically paying more for the appearance pretty much

WE do a lot of things for appearance so I don't think this should be any different. Haha
