Hi all,

How does the Kicker VSS Subwoofer upgrade compare to a single 10" JL Audio Stealthbox with a proper amp? I realize the JL Stealthbox like would and should out perform the Kicker, but does anyone have any actual comparisons from a listening perspective?

thanks!

The JL should kick the ass of the Kicker (no pun intended).

JL is on a completely different level than the Kicker. JL Audio all day

Thanks everyone. The JL is on the radar. The lightly used 15' I picked up came with a completely upgraded stereo (speaker wise) and has the Kicker sub & dash speakers plus he put JL 6x9s in all of the door speakers too.

The bass is certainly better than the stock Alpine but I wanted to know how inferior this Kicker was in comparison to the JL single 10" Stealth.

Convert, for now.

The Kicker only has a small BTL 200w amp. Its made for a simple bass upgrade, plug and play. Any larger setup with more power will be louder. That was the simplicity route. I loved mine, but of course it was installed for a small bass upgrade over stock. It is more than the Alpine 150w 8" though.
I sold my old 2015 Ram that had that setup, now has 6 L715's ported with 7400 watts.

Kicker is muddy/loud bass.

JL will be super tight and clean.

BUT

If you already have the kicker set up and are not an audiophile I don't know if its worth the approx. $1000 (Stealth, amp, wiring, LC2i) to change to JL.

Unfortunately I am an audiofile so there is a large likely hood of making the switch. At least I've got a Kicker system to sell to help subsidize.

I wouldn't say muddy, its depending on install. I have heard MANY top SQ award winning cars over my 30 years.

Install is key.

Build as you intend it to be listened too.

Thats a crazy setup!! Do you compete in DB comps with it?
No sir, demo vehicle only. Does very well.
Turn the gains on subs all the way down, the front stage is amazing.

I have the jl stealthbox with 2 10s but if I didn't care about the load floor i would have gone with a bigger box like the net audio tall and went with w6 subs instead

I’ve got the stealthbox powered to a RF 750x1 (500 watts at 2ohms). Honestly I’m not too impressed with it. It sounds ok. Installed with the PAC harness and Kicker speakers throughout with an audiocontrol 4 channel.

My mustang has a P3 in a sealed box with the same amp and sounds great. I thought for sure spending the money on the JL would yield better results.
