hello,

I have a 2015 ram 3500 Laramie. Appears my sunroof is leaking and I’m not sure which way to go. Initially it would only leak at the passenger grab handle and the headliner would be damp just above.

I’ve lowered the headliner enough in the front and rear to access the drains, pulled them off and can blow through them easy enough with no obstruction.

I’ve tried doing the re calibration on the sunroof with no effect.

I’ve adjusted the glass with no effect, actually maybe made it worse as it now leaks worse I think even though the glass is flush. Now the passenger rear of the sunroof area leaks and has the headliner soaked in that area and the grab handle area is now dry. Might try adjusting again but when I first did it didn’t seem to matter which way I adjusted it, the water would still pour in with the garden hose running over top. Just left it where it seemed best.

When running the garden hose it almost seems like the rear drip tray gets overwhelmed and can’t keep up, but the drains are clear so I don’t know.

Debating a new seal or glass and seal but not sure I’ll be any further ahead. Just more money spent on it and still a leak. Could silicone it shut and not have it leak… lol. First and last sunroof vehicle I’ll buy I think.

Third brake lights are a known problem, the seal does NOT SEAL .
This should be looked into, a fresh seal from weather strip obtained from local hardware store has fixed my leak . Been good for twelve years now.
The search engine on this forum has lots of other information about this and lots of other things.

seems fishy

Just a suggestion, but while I worked at an Autobody Shop,we used to repair sunroof leaks quite abit, with a good track record, along with trunk leaks etc.Sometimes they'd be a situation where there was a infinitismal, gap between the roof and the sunroof (and the tray was totally bypassed by the non perceptable gap).I have seen that and it can be repaired with seam sealer.Silicone glue doesn't actually work very good.Sounds like you have spend many frustrating hours with it and it is still coming in.Before you glue it shut
and your at your wits end bring it to an autobody shop and let them fix it.
One trick technicians use is to blow talcum powder over the outer surface. The powder will collect in the gap causing a leak...
You will still have issues if you glue it closed with silicone glue, and a mess trying to remove it.
That said, spray the rubbers with silicone spray and they will seal better.
Good Luck!

I have forbidden my wife to EVER operate the sunroof on her car.

I have nearly dis-owned my SIL because he has ..against my wishes…. operated the sliding rear window of my Ram.

These types of trim-gimmicks are troublesome, and if I have a choice, I never buy them. With the vehicles that came with them…. I refuse to ever open them, for this very reason of the troublesome leaks.

Locate the fuse for that item and “pull it”.

Some sunroofs have a drain-system to allow water to drain-away from the recessed-areas. You might check to see if your drains are clogged with dirt.

Are you parking your truck at an angle (OP)? There are typically 4 drains, one in each corner. Perhaps the rear ones are plugged and the water (if parked at an angle) is backing up?? It's just a thought.

Verify there aren't any paint chips around the sealing edge of your tk's sunroof which might let water through. If so, fill and remedy. Also, adjust so the sunroof is either flush or slightly proud of the roof so water doesn't 'pool' at any of the corners.

Yeah, if all those things checks out well, all the drains are 'clear', a new seal might be a good solution. What happens is sometimes, a rubber seal can 'shrink' over time from age/ozone, etc. When that happens they seem to tighten and get just a bit thinner at the corners (and water can sometimes get through). Esp if there is a driving rain or pooling. Your tk *is* 11 years old, so... might not hurt. But then again, you are in Canada ...the sun isn't as strong or intense as, say, Las Vegas or AZ.

I've replaced a few sunroof seals (but not on a Ram). It typically involves removing the glass ....which you've already done (usually 4 screws or small bolts), then setting on a table, removing/installing the new seal in a groove or 'track'. Clean all that out well in the process, and any dust/dirt in and around the upper sunroof housing and assembly. Try your best to ensure the seal on the glass is not particularly tight at the corners (possibly making it thinner there). Pull back, or 'slacken' the seal at the corners, or relieve any tension on the rubber gasket before installation.

Good luck! Rule out all the other factors before replacing the gasket. Let us know what the winning 'fix' was ...besides building a shed to park it in ...lol.
