Gonna do yet _another_ quick update here just to keep it all in one thread…

I decided to give the HID Ultra “kit” from Headlight Revolution a try as I’m not really liking the dead-spots that are VERY visible in the beam pattern thrown with the Morimoto 2-Stroke 3.0 LED’s .

I’ve installed just one side (driver-side) this afternoon so that I can get the best side-by-side comparison between the Morimoto 2-stroke 3.0 LED and the GTR Ultra HID (55w / 6000k). For now, I think I’m actually going to possibly stick with the CSP mini LED for my high beam… that thing is super bright!

Here are just a few snapshots of what I installed for the kit for anyone wondering!

… side note — after I installed the HID kit, I flipped the lights on to make sure everything was working properly before buttoning it all back up… good thing I did! My low-beam wouldn’t turn on! Long story short - I had to replace the factory plug from GTR lighting with the 12in extension Headlight Revolution included in my kit… the polarity is off otherwise!

Here is the GTR on top and the correct extension on bottom…

I installed these this past week, and what a difference. Super bright, no dark or dead spots, plug and play, clocked perfectly.

The only thing I found, is on the 9005 blubs, the o-ring is not as fat as the factory. Replacing that with the one off the old bulbs will take care of that.

I just wish I had thought of doing it before I finished...lol So, I have the factory AutoOne o-ring in. It works fine, just not as tight as the factory one. The H11 seal was fine.

Here is the kit. $59.99 on Amazon..Yes it's inexpensive, but expensive is not always better.

The HID throws WAAAAAAAY more light on the ground leading up to the wall with little to no dead spots… however - I am NOT a fan of the weird dead spot on the outer edge

I’m leaning towards keeping the HID’S but I’ll know more tonight as I’ll be able to tell if the dead spot is bulb related or that’s just how they’re manufactured. I’m not a fan of all of this shenanigans tho… lol!

Part of me wants to just replace the whole damn housing now… I just don’t like that they aren’t serviceable and you basically have a warranty issue or just plain SOL should a light go out.

Decisions decisions!

Cadiram,

I switched to the exact same fixtures with LED bulbs from Amazon...
High-Beam https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09LD4T2XK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Low-Beam https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09LD4T2XK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It took a couple of days to get the upper cut-off where I needed it. I drive 2000-2500 miles/month, and a third of that is at night, both in Houston traffic and on dark country roads. For a 55-y/o man, I can see way up the road and very clearly, and I don't have anyone flashing their brights at me. I've been running them hard since February, and I'm very happy with them.
Did you have to run resistors with those lights?

Thanks for the update. I have LED's in my 2017 with projectors and while they are okay, I am not a fan of the light pattern. A bit too much scattering for my liking so I have been considering making the switch to HID's. I am curious to hear how you like the HID's after a bit more use. I sure like the illumination on the ground immediately in front of the truck. Do you have projector housings?

HID’S are the way to go IMO on these Ram projector light housings.

(Yes, I have a 2017 2500 w/projectors)

Thank you! I have done more research and reading on this than I care to think about but my conclusion is that HID's are a better choice than LED's, and your opinion confirms this.

Iceman,

I have a 2011 1500 SLT 5.7, and it came factory with the quad halogen headlights. I wanted LED brightness, but didn't want to put LEDs in a halogen fixture. My lenses were also starting to turn yellow and hazy, so I opted to replace the assemblies with aftermarket projector units. I did months of research and was discouraged because of bad reviews from leaking. I finally came across these Alpharex Pro-Series G2 units, with projectors for both low-beam and high-beam. And the turn signals are sequential LEDs too. Plus, I could add DRL, which I wanted. I love them! Seriously!!

The light beam is beautiful! I have a very distinct cut-off across the top, so I can really dial them in for illumination up the road, and still not blind anyone.

I highly, highly recommend this setup! I'm hard to please when it comes to stuff like this, and I'm blown away!
Hey man, so you bought these headlights and it came with Halogen bulbs, so you upgraded to LED bulbs yourself?

How are they holding up? Might order them next week.
Fabulous. I’ve since swapped my 09 over to quad headlights and installed them in there too. The second time I did have some issues with clocking them, the little Allen grub screw was wanting to round out on me, so just make sure you have a set of good quality allen keys on hand that won’t round off

Hello everyone,

2014 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L V8 Hemi. I am looking to replace m halogen headlight bulbs with LED for both low and high beam. What brands do you all suggest? Thank you in advance.
If you get some nice snow in the winter time, LEDs do not heat the headlights up and can snow them up. I put in some LEDS and snowed 3 days later. As the snow built up, the lights went from aimed to like an incandescent bulb and couldn't see ****. Had to stop 2x to clean them off.

The Morimoto's will melt snow on the headlight... they designed for that -- just fyi!
