Are you referring to LED's in the overhead lights, or people using LED's in the footwell areas?

I replaced all of my dome lights with LED's. It lights up the interior much better, and it's a "whiter/cooler" light than the stock bulbs. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any decent pictures to show how it looked.

Some people will put LED's under the dash to light up the floors. You can use different colors for that area. 1) it lights up the floor area, 2) some think it just looks cool. They can be wired to always be on, or just on/off with opening doors/lock/unlock.

P.S. - I know you're new to the truck and to the forum, but if you look at the top of the page, there is a banner with different options. One of them is a search function. Use that and you will find more than enough info to keep you busy for a while. I've seen some people b*tching because of your questions. Ignore them. But that search tool will help you quite a bit. I'm still learning about my truck too. I'm only 4 months into it.

I ordered some LEDs that replace the oem interior bulbs. Once I get them installed, I will post pics.

I have installed the interior LEDs (dome light), led reverse lights and license plate lights. I bought them all from superbrightleds and they are plug and play. Their site allows you to put in your vehicle info and matches the bulb type and size, giving you options on the different colors as well. Highly reccomend their bulbs. Also, FYI, if you put the leds in and they don't light up, flip them around and put them back in.
I have also installed an RGB multiple color led footwell kit I bought from diode dynamics with a wireless remote controller allowing me to change the colors, brightness, fading, pulsing etc. for a power source, I wired into the 12v power outlet just below where my 4x4 shift knob is. Getting to the wires at the back of the plug were alittle tricky. I popped off the trim panel around the stereo then removed one screw that holds the bottom panel surrounding the 12v power outlet. The screw is visible once you take off the top panel mentioned that surrounds the stereo and it's just above the power outlet plug in.
I then gently pulled the panel that is around the outlet out towards me to where I could see the back of the plug with the wiring and unplugged it. I then climbed into the floor board with a light and pulled it towards me through a visible opening to wire up the lights using quick splice connectors supplied in the kit. Once I spliced into the wires, I fed the harness back through the opening and then pulled the plastic trim back out enough to get my other hand behind the outlet area and grabbed the harness. I then plugged it back into the outlet. I hope some of that makes sense lol. I considered doing a diy on this if enough people are interested in the process. It took me about an hour and a half to do everything start to finish.
Here is a video from their website I used to help me with the process. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=juvFWa6PcBo
I did not drill a hole anywhere for the on off switch they talk about. I used 3m tape to tape it to the backside of the lower trim panel under the steering wheel. Let me know if you have more questions or needs pictures.... I'll try my best to help out but I'll be on nights all weekend so it might be tues-Thursday before I can get photos

One of the most practical mods I've made and also one of my favorites...

how much brighter are they than stock?

color recommendations (white, warm white)?

how hard are they to install?

LED map lights are much brighter than stock halogen lights. I actually found a kit on Amazon that had the map lights and the rear dome light for about $15. I went with "white" light, or "cool white" instead of the "warm" white.

The dome light is easy to replace, the map lights are a bit harder, just because they are so small. One tip I saw (after I did mine) was to use a long piece of tape. Secure it to both sides of the bulb and then pull. I had a hard time getting my fat fingers in the bulb area to pull the light out. If you get the correct bulbs, you do not need any resistors.

I noticed on superbrightleds.com they offer canbus bulbs... I've got a 2012 ram 1500 express quadcab... do I need to order the canbus bulbs or will any of the led replacement bulbs be ok?

You'll be fine with any of the non-canbus. I don't think, at least on my previous 12 and my current 13, that there is a bulb out message system for the interior lights, but don't quote me on that.

Would it display an error code for license plate light bulbs and other assorted exterior marker lamps and such if replaced with led's?

Make sure you get CANBUS replacements. I'm pretty sure superbrights will give you the correct bulbs if you plug in your truck info. Exterior lights and the computers on the 13+ trucks are finicky.

anyone find a good footwell kit yet?

I bought the diode dynamics footwell RGB multicolor led footwell kit with the upgraded remote and I couldn't be happier. Pretty easy install and they have great customer service.

You should be fine and have no messages. I switched over my license plate lights and reverse lights to leds in my 12' and had no issues. If the leds don't light up after install, flip them around and they should come on.

It would be great if you could do the DIY write up. I would love to see how you did it with pictures as a reference.

I keep wanting to take pictures and walk everyone through what I did but I keep starting other little mods lol. Currently, I'm switching over to led switchback turn signals so once I'm done with that, I'll try to tackle a little DIY of the footwell kit. The video diode dynamics website was a good starting point that shows how to tie it all together.

These are great, better than superbright led bulbs which i paid about $4 a piece for :flipthebird:
Zero issues on my 13' express
Zero issues on my fathers 14' GMC sierrra
Zero issues on my mothers 13' ford explorer

All these bulbs pull straight out, very straight forward.

I am more curious to see how you routed everything. I don't want to get aggressive pulling panels apart and drilling holes only to see a better way LOL.
