So I installed my Recon LED plate light assemblies on my 2018 (had the same ones in my last truck for over a year) and they were working fine. I unplugged them both to zip tie the resistor to the wiring so it wasn’t visibly dangling under my truck.

I plugged them back in exactly as before and both won’t turn on. Tried putting stock bulbs back in still won’t turn on.

Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on here?

Same thing happened in my Charger. Let the truck go to sleep and try again it a bit. Bet you it’s “healed” itself.

If you’re talking about just the normal license plate lamp bulbs you just need to get yourself a new set of led bulbs. superbrightleds.com have have set of canbus 194 bulbs that will work no resistors required. 15+ rams electrical system are far more complex. Things that work for a 14 and under might not work for a 15+

My last truck was a 15 and these worked fine with resistors. They were working when I first hooked them up tonight but when I unplugged them to zip tie them and plugged them back in and they stopped working both of them. I plugged back in the stock bulbs and those aren’t lighting up either. It’s like the connector from the truck isnt supplying power anymore. No dash lights though. Unsure what the issue is. Fuse related?

Trust me, give it an hour or so. When it happened in my Charger I was convinced I screwed something up or needed a new harness. An hour later, they were working fine. Happened again the next night when I fussed with them again.

You popped a fuse somehow. Open your manual up and see what fuse is for the license plate illuminators

There isn’t a dedicated fuse for the license plate lights.

Maybe it just needs a power cycle on the computer then?

No but it should give a description of what that fuse powers.

I doubt that’ll help. I think you blew a fuse. I blew a fuse when hooking up my dash cam. I wired it into the trailer brake wire since I didn’t have one. Couldn’t find it to save my life. Finally had to call my mopar tech buddy who told me what fuse it was under the hood.

Do you happen to remember which fuse it was?

Canbus system needs to completely go to sleep. Try back in a little while, I bet they’re working perfectly.

You can try it I doubt it just disconnect the battery for 5 to 10 minutes and try again. Truck might need to be started a couple times before it actually runs because it has to relearn how to idle. I just don’t see how the canbus system is fail safing license plate bulbs. If that were the case the canbus system would throw warnings because that’s what canbus systems do. I don’t remember what fuse it was but I can guarantee it’s not the same one because this was one of the larger fuses.

Told ya lol. I don’t know why, but it’s almost like the cars (or truck in this case) puts the lights into some kind of fail safe mode. When I did this in my Charger I was trying to cram an LED light bulb in the housing that was just a hunts care too large. I experienced the same issues you did. Thought I damaged the socket. Few hours later I went out and they were working normally. Glad I could help!

How does the not throw a code or warning when it does this? I thought the canbus system was supposed to give you a code for everything it’s doing.
