my 03 fx4 lariat was by far the best of the 8 trucks i've owned.i picked it up in 05 as a lease return and saved 20 k over new. i ran it into the ground and it only left me stranded once.my alternator crapped out and i tried to make it home on battery .fail. i still got 6500 for it in a trade in for my 2500.it took a beating and refused to die.the only reason i traded it was the a/c died in the middle of july, and i took it in to get an estimate for some repairs.total estimate was a little over 5 k for all the little things.
My best truck was also a '03 FX4 lariat.
Got it brand new with 20km (16 mi) on the odometer in Nov '03 and dumped it for the Ram in July '15.
Only two problems that I had with her. 2014, I had the front passenger brake caliper fail while coming home from camping (it seized shut--Had to pry it open and drive home).
The other, was the reason I got the Ram in 2015. I blew a tranny cooler line and I apparently didn't notice it. It kept spewing tranny fluid to work and back. Then when I finally noticed it, I got it fixed, but the tranny wouldn't shift right. A rebuild tranny + the rusted out rocker panels + some of the brake lines were looking pretty rusty= Am I starting to throw good money after bad?
So I dumped her and got the Ram.
But that being said, I need to put a disclaimer on my personal truck comparison.
A near top of the line truck vs a bottom of the line truck is comparing apples to apples; but it's more of does McIntosh or Red Delicious make a better pie? Both trucks have their niche, but it's not fair to compare the two, since both niche's are different.
