So, I feel guilty for stealing another thread with it, so I will create my own for my project truck. Feel free to share your own projects, I wana see um!

Me and my buddy bought a 1986 Chevy K20 about 2 years ago while I was away with the Marine Corps to build up as a Competition Sled Puller. After doing some research, we decided that it was going to be WAY to expensive to do that under our budget. SOOO... we decided to just build a BA truck we could go play in the mud, go fast, and look good in a car show. SO the current plan is to put a new body on it (buying a 84 body for $700), painting it all up, throwing a 6" lift on it with 35" powered by a nasty 383.

Here are some pictures of everything so far, it is just about completly torn down, ready for sandblasting and paint, so the reassembly can begin!

When we bought it:

How it sat for practically 2 years while I was away:

Started tearing it down:

I got home permanently this past July and things really got rolling:

Sweet build, I started on a 1960 f-100 but sold it due to money and I really needed a reliable dd

Sorry... got TONS of pics...

Putting the Dodge to work

Decided to tear down the engine from there and go back to the truck later on. After running the numbers on the block, we found out we had a ZZ4 block with a bunch of other older crap thrown on top.

That was all up until right after the new year. From there, it kinda sat for a couple months because of extremely busy schedules and other things getting in the way.

This past week, we really got back into it and got a
lot more work done on the truck

We had issues with the bushings in the rear leaf springs, so we just burnt them out!

And as it sits now... got the rear axle dropped. Going to try to start on the front sometime this week

We were able to pick up a "new" body for it fairly cheap. We are going to be taking the trip over a state this weekend to pick it up!

Thanks! Yea, they are a ton of fun, and for someone like myself that has never gotten this deep into any vehicle before, are fairly simple to do and there are tons of parts available.

We are actually going to do a late 70's front end on it. The only difference is the grill and headlights. I just think they look better.

Here's some pics for comparison..

Older:

Newer:

I just personally like the older look myself. I think they made them from 1973 to around 1980 or 81

Got a little more work done today on the Chevy. We got the front axle dropped. So now all we have to do is strip the last few things off the chassis and we can start the rebuild!

Cool build! I'm currently working on an '84 GMC K20 with a 6.2 diesel. It's been a fun project and definitely a learning experience. I'll try and find some pics.

I'm also in negotiations with a guy to trade my '86 Camaro for a 1970 GMC 1500. I've always wanted one so I couldn't pass it up.

Awesome! We were originally looking to build a 6.2, but after some serious research, we decided it wasn't worth it.

I love the 67-72 body style, I would really like to put one of those together someday.

Can't wait to see some pics!

Yea, not many people like the 6.2 and I almost got rid of it, but I wanted to try something different so I thought what the hell. I did a lot a research and took some preventative measures so hopefully I won't run into any of the major problems people usually have.

If it blows up, I'll just put a 350 in it. Or a Cummins. Lol.

Oh yea, if done right, you can make them reliable and somewhat powerful. Have you looked into using the 6.5 heads and turbo as well?

Yea, I've been looking into turboing it. A lot of guys said to stick with the 6.2 heads if I do. Haven't looked to hard for one cause I'm really nervous about breaking the crank. :Grenade:

I mostly put it back in to see how good of MPG it will get.

Yea, gotta be careful with those for sure. I know Banks makes a turbo kit for them. PM me if you need any resources on the 6.2. I did a ton of research on them when when I was planning to go that route and can share all my links with you

Found a few pics of the beast. Don't worry, its losing the flatbed soon. It's still in the shop at my brother's house so no recent pics. He lives an hour away and its been pretty busy at work, so I haven't got a whole lot accomplished on it lately. Hoping to go up there this weekend.

The day I pulled it home

This was taken around 2 in the morning after pulling the greaseball blown 6.2 out. Diesel grease is NASTY stuff. Lol.

The donor 6.2 I pulled from a 2wd C10 after washing off 30 years of diesel grime

And the shift knob is broke so I found this one on Ebay. I know, I know, Jimmy is actually the name for GMC's version of the blazer, but my friends always call my truck the 'Jimmy' so I couldn't pass it up.

Will do! It's been pretty slow going on this truck. The previous owner beat the tar out of it and there's been several things pop up that I didn't notice when I bought it. But, I figure any 25+ year old truck is gonna have its share of problems and I have 5 parts trucks so it'll all work out.

5?! Holy crap! I have just the new body and whatever else I can find. All I have left I should need parts-wise is a pair of fenders and a cowl hood i believe.
