Hi all,

I recently picked up a 2015 5.7 ram w/ the 8 speed. I am looking at all options for modifications including strictly bolt-ons all the way to forced induction. I am very familiar with centrifugal style superchargers as I've owned an F1X on a C5 Z06. Belt slip was a nightmare but IATs were "easy" to control with ****/water and the power is very linear.

To be honest, if I had to choose boost today for this truck it would be a Whipple style supercharger a single turbo kit.

I've only come across the Spartan kit for these 4th gen Rams. Is anyone else doing a kit? I'm only looking to run 5-8psi and keep the drive-line and engine internals stock.

I won't be drag racing much if any and this truck is a daily driver that will tug snowmobile trailers so the FI application must be able to survive Saskatchewan winters (-40*C at the coldest).

You're better off asking these questions on facebook, very few of the high performance guys hang around here anymore. Nadodge or Tuned Rams are both good sites as there's a couple turbo guys on both sites. Look up Mark Rogee or Wade Mossely on either site.Theres 3 guys that I know of,who did Whipple blowers on their stock trucks, and all 3 have either kicked a rod out the side of the block,or knocked the top off a piston,be forewarned about putting a whipple on your truck, unless you upgrade the pistons and rods

That almost settles it then: Whipple out!

I am favoring the turbo idea vs a blower anyway so this information helps.

Thanks.

If you're looking for a blower that generates good torque and is an easy install, look into the Edelbrock blower. There's a few of them running around Sask and Alberta, and as far as I know, nobodies grenaded a motor running the Eddy blower.Hunt up Josh Slingerland on Nadodge/Tuned Rams or Alberta Regular Cabs if the Eddy blower intrigues you. He's Lethbridge based and has been beating the living **** out of his truck at the Hat and pretty where everywhere else he can spin the tires, for well over a year, with no issues engine wise.Have you thought about Nitrous, the Hemi loves nitrous and is way easier to tune for nitrous then they are for forced induction.I'm only running a 75 shot on my truck, and as far as I know,i have the fastest passes out of my 4X4 in Western Canada

This blower is definitely on the radar of consideration. Thanks for the info.

I have about 0 desire to drag race this truck and I want the power to be usable and reliable at all times; where as nitrous is basically only good for drag racing.

The turbo route is appealing to me for a few reasons: Its unique and I've already owned a 9 second blower car. The turbo kit should run lower IATs and there will be absolutely 0 belt issues with it.

Some downfalls of the turbo: it'll probably be remote mount so there is the oiling factor. The exhaust will probably sound worse. I am unsure if a turbo is a wise idea based on the climate I live in.

No matter what you go with, the tune is going to be a big thing. Bad tunes grenade lots of engines. Fairly certain that’s what happened with my whipple truck. As a contrast buddy of mine has the exact same truck/setup with a whipple. He’s running the stock tune from whipple and hasn’t had any issues and he’s pretty hard on his truck.

No matter what you go with it’s not going to be 100% safe. When you start adding 150+ whp you should at least be prepared that something may give. Upgrading rods and pistons is good insurance. My truck has the MMX forged rods and pistons as well as lowered compression to 9.5:1 now. So I’ve got a pretty good safety margin to up the boost now.

The whipple blower is hands down a better blower than the edelbrock one, which is why they make more power even at the same boost.

Edelbrock does offer a better warranty though, that’s also something to consider. So at least if you do grenade something you’ll have some sort of warranty.
