Age and treachery - discovered this morning that at present age I can no longer deadlift a full sized spare off the ground and into the truck bed. Down, gravity rules. Up - I used a 4' hardwood board through the center and on to the tailgate. Once I got the board parallel with the tailgate I was easily able to get the wheel into the bed. In the event of a flat, I sure would not care to leave an expensive wheel and tire behind after a flat. From now on, the board will be aboard! BTW, I was a gym rat till I got old, resumption not a practical idea!

I have a tractor with forks and a High Lift offroad type jack. Lifting on the property not a problem. On the road, the board will do until it wont! Thanks for the ideas though! The truck mounted ones are common on ranch trucks, practical but kinda ugly. Like me, my truck is pretty much retired and recreation only!

I know what you mean. At 75.5 I'm finding that I can't do what I think I can. But for many years I have figured out how to do things by myself that should have been 2 man jobs. I used to remove and replace the 727 trans in my Roadrunner by myself in my driveway every weekend to swap the torque converter for the drag strip. And the differential. I would just grab it and shove it in with one hand. I had to ask my son for help this morning to replace the transaxle in the lawnmower. You can't fight father time.

I miss my little MF 150 loader ,cw 3pt hitch , the women in the family said it had to go on the farm sale.
I don't think I have had a spare out for 25 yrs, that reminds me, spring , have to check out the winch to make sure it goes up and down.
I have the tire shop store my winter tires and rims , so I just give them $ and I don't mess with them.
Have the Honda winter ones on a rack on the wall over head, haven't had them down for 2 yrs, but if I back the truck up to them, it not too hard of a lift, thu the wife and Doc would ***** at me . I don't plan on having a flat ;)

I carry lots of ratchet straps, wonder if one could hook one up and winch up to end gate then just flip it into the bed, if one did not want to mess with the winch in a snow bank at -30?

I don't understand why everything is 2x as heavy as it was 10 or 20 yrs ago.
