License plate light out

I got a DeeZee bumper and it came with its own license plate lights. Well, had to clip the ends off the truck and sodder the truck wires to the bumper wires. Now I get a light out message when the truck starts.

Using the AlphaOBD i changed the lights to LED a few years ago. Any other things I could try?

If it does not actually light up, flip the lamps (change the polarity); if it’s LED it likely only works one way...but you probably know that.

If it DOES light up it’s possible the LEDs draw less current than what the truck expects to see when programmed w/LEDs; I think the threshold is a minimum if 20mA current draw. If that’s the case try different LED lamps.

Another thought (if they don’t light up)...have you tested the connections at the license plate lamp sockets with a meter to make sure you have +12V and a good ground?

They do light up. Ill switch from the LED setting and see if that corrects anything.

OK that raises the question: are the license plate lights in your new bumper LED, or incandescent?
