Hello all,
First post. Buying a new 2018 1500 this Saturday. It will be a 5.7 liter 4x4 quad cab with the 6’4” bed and 8-speed auto.
Wanted to get all of your opinions on whether the lifetime power train warranty is worth it or not. I am the kind of person that will drive a vehicle as long as possible. Plan on keeping this truck as long as it can last basically. The warranty cost $4000 with a $100 deductible. My specific questions on “is it worth it” are as follows:
I have heard Rams tend to have tranny issues. Maybe that was the previous transmission. Are tranny issues (or any other power train items) still problematic to the point of warranting the purchase of the extended warranty?
The second question is for people that have direct experience with the lifetime warranty. Is Chrysler a stickler to providing maintenance records or do modifications such as a lift void the warranty? I do all my own work so won’t have shop documentation. I know a lift doesnt modify the powertrain directly but might give Chrysler an “out” to not honor the warranty. The only mods I foresee me doing is a minor lift and slightly larger tires. Maybe re-gear the axles if performance suffers with the tires. Basically, will it be a pain in the rear to actually get warranty work done?
Thanks to all in advance. Any input is much appreciate. Looking forward to learning a lot through this forum.
