Hello all,

First post. Buying a new 2018 1500 this Saturday. It will be a 5.7 liter 4x4 quad cab with the 6’4” bed and 8-speed auto.

Wanted to get all of your opinions on whether the lifetime power train warranty is worth it or not. I am the kind of person that will drive a vehicle as long as possible. Plan on keeping this truck as long as it can last basically. The warranty cost $4000 with a $100 deductible. My specific questions on “is it worth it” are as follows:

I have heard Rams tend to have tranny issues. Maybe that was the previous transmission. Are tranny issues (or any other power train items) still problematic to the point of warranting the purchase of the extended warranty?

The second question is for people that have direct experience with the lifetime warranty. Is Chrysler a stickler to providing maintenance records or do modifications such as a lift void the warranty? I do all my own work so won’t have shop documentation. I know a lift doesnt modify the powertrain directly but might give Chrysler an “out” to not honor the warranty. The only mods I foresee me doing is a minor lift and slightly larger tires. Maybe re-gear the axles if performance suffers with the tires. Basically, will it be a pain in the rear to actually get warranty work done?

Thanks to all in advance. Any input is much appreciate. Looking forward to learning a lot through this forum.

Look on line for the warranty. I found it is much cheaper than the dealer for the same mopar warranty.

Get the mopar lifetime max care from Zeigler. I believe the website is http://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/default.aspx & they have a promo code “payinfull” that gets you $365 off if you pay for the plan upfront instead of financing it with them. Either way with them will still get you the best plan for well under $4,000.

To add, the straight up lifetime mopar powertrain from Zeigler is under $2k, so your dealer is definitely making bank on you.

Thanks for the replies so far. Will definitely look into the other warranties. But the two questions still stand: is it worth it in terms of the potential issues with the truck and is it hard to get companies to honor the warranty? Thanks!

No personal experience but the fine print states lift under 2” okay.

Others will chime in. As far as doing your own work save receipts and document mileage.

Others will chime in I am sure

1st off the warranty stated in the link above is the same exact mopar warranty that you would pay 4k for. 2nd I have a lifetime on my wifes 2007 pacifica and have had repairs done with no issues. Bought the warranty online at a discount & my local dealer honors it without question. As long as you provide required maintenence and keep receipts you will be fine.

I can't say for sure about the lift but have seen other posts that 2" is ok. I'm pretty sure they have to prove your mod caused any failure to deny you service.

Yeah the fine print says to stay under 2” on lift.

The burden of proof is on them if they deny a claim.

The Mopar plan is supposed to be valid at all Chrysler service departments, and my understanding is the better your relationship with where you go, the better they will overlook “minor” things that might red flag a repair.

If you do your own routine maintenance just keep the receipts. I’d have to double check my paperwork but believe they won’t cover something like a re-gear unless it’s done by their certified service department.

Haggle on the warranty price. Bought mine last November and the dealer wanted $4K for as mentioned, ended up paying $2,200 for it.

There are multiple threads regarding the Lifetime Warranty. Quoted price is over-the-top.

Recommend you contact Johhny at Zeigler. They are a dealership and authorized seller of these warranties. 866.943.7778

Best price highly endorsed by forum members.

$4000 you are getting ripped off, I got my Lifetime Max Warranty for $900. If you lift more than 2 inches and have a failure your on the hook for the repair. If a third party does maintenance on your rig then you Must keep all recipes to prove that proper fluids were used. I called Lifetime Max Warranty to see if I was allowed to use a better/aftermarket oil filter and they said no. Keep in mind the manufacturer warranty and the Lifetime Max Warranty are two different things under different legal entities. The Lifetime warranty starts when the manufacturer warranty ends. The Lifetime warranty is much stricter when it comes to routine maintenance. I do all my own maintenance like you so I have a folder with all my recipes, backed up with Blackstone oil reports.
The good news is you can run Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (PUP) which is a fantastic oil; I'd recommend that over the Pennzoil Platinum (PP) or the Pennzoil Conventional (PYB). But stuck with the paper Mopar oil filter. I'm not pleased with the oil filter situation so I'm writing a certified letter to the Lifetime warranty holder to be sure this is correct. I don't see how a full synthetic oil filter would not be allowed, makes no sense.

Will the dealership honor this Zeigler warranty?

The maxcare shows up on their computer as registered to your vehicle. Doesn't matter where it was bought, you have maxcare. The contract says if possible use the dealer where you bought it, but if not possible you can use any FCA dealer.

Yup, any FCA dealer in the US should honor it. The plan provisions populated in my Mopar App within about 30 minutes of purchase from Zeigler.

what others have said
Price shop
I found mine on line for 800.00 cheaper, took that to my dealer, they said they couldn't match it, I got up and started walking out when they said WAIT will match it.
I didn't get the life time one, BUT still its a mopar one.
I bought mine 2 weeks after I bought truck.
Used a Credit Card that gave me rebates on gas, PLUS when you use C.C some places get charged a percentage for processing, so I figured I was a head a little

Running a business myself, I personally hate,, hate, hate the fact that I get charged for you to use a credit card. Nothing wrong with using a card, I do it all the time myself. But in case you didn't know, that card that you are using makes me, not the issuing card company, pay those percentages that you are getting as rewards. Yes, the Master Card, Visa American Express or whatever else out there, isn't the one paying you the rewards, the vendor that accepts that card is. This is why most are tacking on another 3% for larger purchases and guess what, they are still behind. I think every politician that allowed and passed this legislation for the banks and card issuers to get away with this, should be the ones to pay for your rewards. Sorry for the rant but at the end of the month when I get the statements for these cards, my wallet gets a lot lighter while the card companies are getting larger. Did I mention I hate the reward fees in this post?

This is true Biggdadd58
That is why I only use credit cards at certain places, other wise I pay cash.
I will go to ATM get cash and pay with cash.
Only a few places I use credit cards, like gas pumps and dealership.Sorry if I hit a nerve, and by no means did I see you ranting.

My 1.5 cents.......

As I am a person who owns a vehicle for a long time....not like changing socks.......anything that says Lifetime Warranty is well worth it.
