Hello everybody. I have been researching lift kits for a 2012 Tradesman 4x4, but all of the manufacturers I have research say the same thing, that I can not use the original 17" rims that came with the truck. Does any one knows the reason for this? Thanks

Most likely because the wheel cant clear the tie rod end after the lift. As where if you had a 20in wheel, it would still clear. On most trucks, if you use a small spacer you can push the wheel out enough to get by.

This is all a guess... but been down this road before on other makes/models.

Too much backspacing on too small of a diameter rim to be specific. They won't clear the steering knuckle that comes with the lift kit. Not to mention that you can't run overly large tires on them which would look funny with the lift.

I was curious about this also. I put a small lift on my last truck (silverado) and loved the look of it. And was thinking of buying stock 17'S replace my 20's to give my Ram a similar look. So this will not work with with say just the Rancho quick lift shocks? Will 17's work with aftermarket wheels?

Thank you all. One more. What if I use wheel spacers? Would it work?

Yes, aftermarket wheels with the correct offset will work.

Yes you can make the OEM 17's work with spacers. Motorsport Tech's BORA spacers are what you want to be looking at.
