Just bought a 2016 Ram Outdoorsman and would like to add a light bar without removing my tow hooks. I have seen a lot of people posting about using the tow hook area to mount one but is it possible to mount behind the grill? What size would work best if so?

EDIT: Added photo of the truck

Running a light bar behind the grill you'd end up diffusing a lot of the light through the grill itself.

Might be a non-starter if you are trying to get the most light out in front.

If I remember correctly, one member had a single row light bar mounted below the bumper tucked up tight to the lower air damn. It looked pretty good there. Or look and see if you can fab up brackets that use the mounting points for the tow hooks and come to the inside of the tow hook openings and then mount a 30inch light bar between the tow hooks.

If you don't have the front ParkSense on you truck, then you could use this: http://www.moes-performance.com/Westin_Off_Road_Light_Bar_09_12_Ram_1500_Black_p/37-02585.htm

I dunno... I've seen some posts and the light output while diminished is still additive to the overall output.

Added a picture for better reference. Also considered replacing the fog lights with LED pods but those are just as expensive.

I added a picture. My tow hooks are not in slots like your bumper has, but I ended up bending mine to angle out and then back over enough to get the lights on them due to my light frames are bigger than opening. You should be able to do same. View media item 29831

Unfortunately, behind the grill does block a lot of light. Maybe look into a “License plate Mount.” They are very functional and will mount straight to your chrome steel bumper.

I do recommend spending a bit more and get something name brand when it comes to lights. Worth the investment I believe. God speed.

Just wanting to keep the stock look for now. I think I am starting to switch directions and go with Baja or Rough Country pods to put in the fog light area.

Old truck...40 watt tow hook flush mount, 40 watt 2 row pods behind grill and led fogs lows

I did rounds. They are bright head on but not that great in use due to grill.

Can’t go wrong with Baja Designs. They can be expensive but some of their lights are actually a great value.

My reverse lights are a pair of BD S1’s amber wide cornering

Baja Designs has a ton of products. I think some squadron sports (in all wide cornering) will be great in your fog light. Or, I think a 10” ONYX+ on a license plate mount would be killer too. 20” if it is in the budget. Check out “Alternativeoffroad.com.” That is who I buy my lights from. Coupon code AOFAMILY. BD also does a killer “Black Friday” every year and can be combined with dealer promotions. No point is buying the cheap **** if you play your cards right and shop around.

Listed on amazon as Nilight 71014C-A Curved 42" 240W Spot Flood Combo High Power LED Bar. Had to make my own brackets.

Smoking deal at $55 when they first came out. Great warranty. I had condensation, emailed them had a replacement in a week. No questions asked. No core return.

I had rough country, this isnt as bright or focused. Keep that in mind.
