I have a 2013 ram 1500 and I had it diagnosed that the light rain sensor module short circuited. I actually had a bigger issue of the transmission control module not functioning properly but could not justify paying for the wiper module over that. Is there anybody that has replaced one of these at home before? Or has had experience with replacing them. What I’m wondering is does it need to be flashed or should it just be installed. Also if anybody knows the correct one that goes in that would be great too.

This should be the one that fits your truck. It's the one I ordered for my 14 1500. There are sections to calibrate the rain sensor in the Alfa tool but I'm not sure if you would actually have to do it. There have been a few guys who have upgraded to rain sensing wipers and installed the rain sensor and simply enabled the codes without doing any calibration and they seem to work fine. You can install it and see what happens. If it doesn’t work correctly you can try calibrating it with the Alfa tool if you have one or possibly have the dealer do it if you don't want to attempt it yourself. d0c63ad5232cb41eece1ebea27e120f0.jpg

Which now raises the question, for those of us without sensor wipers from the factory, you can just add the sensor and enable it and it works? Do you have to change the wiper control on the column stalk?

Yes you can add them. I'm doing mine in a week or two. I'm changing my windshield at the same time. Ghost Ram did it a year or so ago and did a writeup on it. You don't need to change the wiper switch or any wiring to the wiper switch itself. You will need the correct mirror harness with the Rain Sensor connector. This is the same harness that has the connector for the Humidity Sensor we all use when we upgrade to the ATC in the 1500's. You will also need to buy the Rain Sensor itself and enable the codes with the Alfa tool. Here is where it gets a little tricky. If you don't want to purchase a new windshield with the Rain Sensor bracket attached you will need to buy an aftermarket bracket and attach it to your windshield. This is how Ghost Ram installed his. I was going to do it that way and actually bought the bracket that glues to the windshield but never installed it all. I guess I wanted it to look factory. My buddy owns a glass business. I give him a hand when he's busy and he offered to hook me up with a new Mopar windshield with the Rain Sense plus the bracket for my Humidity Sensor so I decided to go ahead and finally add the rain sense wipers. One thing to note is if you are going to mount it in the factory location you will need the Auto High Beam rearview mirror in order for it to fit. This is probably the last thing I'm going to add. I will literally have every option available in my Express except front and rear Park Assist.

Are you sure it actually needs the module or is that inspection sticker possibly blocking its view?

I was thinking the same thing at first but I'm thinking it's far enough away that it shouldn't affect it. I will say that seems like a pretty strange place to put an inspection sticker. We don't have them here so I'm not sure if you're required to put them on a certain place on the windshield.
