i have a 2012 ram i added heated seats and just installed the switch..and as you woud think it didnt work..lol
so my question is..for a complete noob what do i have to enable for that switch to work
i went into alphaobd i went into ram 1500 (ds/dx/dt)>central gateway module MY2006-12 Non-powerNet>Car Configuration change>Vehicle config 1 : Heated seats Present and put this to set ...i get a complete when i hit start but i get no lights on the switch afterwards so i dont know if i did something wrong.

Try also setting this:

Car configuration change: Cabin Network: HSM Heated Seat Module

Yes changed both to set and got nothing

i have this plug under the seat but nothing to plug into it

hmmm - what year are the seats out of? I know 2013 and up are different and not sure they'll work plug and play.

Yeah, you may not have all the wiring in place. Some trim levels didn't have all the wiring from the factory.

This site will show you the connectors and wiring pinouts, I'd start there.


This thread is for 2013+ trucks but does have some very good info in it.

so snooping around in alpha i found these settings..should i have these turned on by chance?

I think those are just testing for the lights, not 100% positive, but I know I didn't need to touch those on mine

Those are for the indicators on the buttons. There's a "hi" setting and a "low" setting to indicate how much heat/ventilation you want applied to the seats. This applies to 4th Gen and older.

Yes, you should or you won't have any feedback as to whether the heated seats are on. Are they ventilated too? If so, enable the lights for those too.

I know that installing the trailer brake controller the device won't won't work unless the dealer initializes the installation into the vehicle build with their scan tool. Could this be the same issue with heated seats?
