Hello All,

I'm looking at getting a Ram and am wondering if there is a site to figure out what options you can get with the differing grades.

I have used the RAM website and it seems pretty good, but it's still a little confusing with all the options. For example, in build/price, I cannot see a package option for the 4-wheel air suspension, but know that it is an option for most of the grades.

Just wondering if there is a site, that allows for complete mixing and matching to see exactly which Ram has what I want.

Any help is appreciated.

regards,

Welcome. If there is a site like that I haven't found it. I bought mine last year and found that going to a few dealerships and looking at the trucks with their window stickers was the best way to find my truck. This way you can get a feel for what trim level offers what, how each model looks, and variance in prices. A lot of the dealership websites I thought were fairly unhelpful unfortunately. I also went to a couple other brand dealerships to check out their lines and to see what they had to offer. IMO it's often a long process and just takes time. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you for the feedback. I knew it was a shot in the dark.....

while it's great that there are so many options, it is confusing as to what can and cannot go with what truck grade.

Get the brochure, it has decent tables to see what options are available at each trim level.

I was really luck to have a great salesman. I went to a large volume dealership for a couple of reasons. There, I knew I could get a great price because high volume dealerships are offered more manufacture incentives and the other reason was because the salesmen there get the same questions 4 times more often than a small dealership and are able to help. My salesman knew everything about the truck including the build specs to help me decide which truck I needed. See if you can locate not just a high volume Dodge dealership but one who pumps or a lot of Ram trucks.

Ramtrucks.com is the one you want. Took me a while to figure it all out, and it's not intuitive, but it's your best source.

One trick I found was that once you've selected your model (say for instance, Ram 1500, http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/ram_1500/ ) then you click on the trim package (say for instance, the Longhorn, http://www.ramtrucks.com/hostc/bmo/CUT201413DS1H61E/2TZ/colors.do? ) the system takes you into a page where you can select color and options. Problem is, it assumes you want 2WD, standard cab, 6.4 inch bed. To select the crew cab, or 4x4, or a different 1500 trim line (like a Laramie) you have to use the tabs across the top to get back to step 1. Note you're on the 2nd tab at this point, you want to click on the 1st tab (circled in blue) or the BACK button to the right of the tabs (beside where it says "Build a Different Vehicle"). See Pic 1 below.

Once you click on that, the system prompts you "Are you sure you want to change your model? You will lose your selections" you click on "Select new model" and it takes you back to the beginning of the configurator, where you can select model, trim, drive system etc. See Pic 2, below.

Starting on tab 1 gives you ultimate control. Some trim levels allow certain packages, while different trim levels disallow others. For instance, you can get air suspension with a Long Horn but not with an Express, and you can get the 40/20/40 front bench with the Express but not the Longhorn, which only allows a console.

Play with it, you'll figure it out from here. Hope this helps.

^^^yeah what he said. That's how I did it before I went to a dealership. The only thing you'll find with that website is after you build your truck it asks you if you want to locate it at a nearby dealership and when you click yes you'll find every other truck but the one you wanted. ***** I did it like 30 times and it never got it right.

Hemi 6.4
Ditto on the website. I finally ended up searching individual dealers' web site inventories to find what I wanted. I was about to give up on getting the 6.4 Hemi with a 2500 as almost every dealer around here only had the CTD. I finally found one that listed 2 of them - and 1 with every option I wanted. Went to the dealer and it was there (well, it was at their off-site storage).

Be aware though that some dealers may not have accurate photos. It is easy to tell when they are using stock ones though. Some even had a picture of the window stickers which was cool.

Depending on what you want, it might be tricky finding the exact truck that meets you needs. They do odd bundling of packages sometime (well, odd to me - probably "most common"). Do your research and you'll definitely know more than the average salesman. :)

Good luck!

p.s. I'm on my 4th Ram so I've been through this a few times...

Yeah for my next Ram I'm just going to order it from the factory and wait the 3 months for it to come in.

Well, I went to the dealer last night just to get a brochure and actually look at the Rams in person. Sat in one, checked out the gadgets, etc.

I did not drive one, but I'll probably set up a time to do so.

Also, as mentioned above, it's doubtful that I'll find one on the lot that has everything I want, and I'd be more likely just to order one and wait. I don't NEED a new vehicle right now.

By the way, when does factory production of the 2014 end and 2015 begin?

Thanks,
