That’s right, I’m considering the purchase of a Chevy.

If any of you have paid for Hoes, ridden Hoes, or have any particular knowledge on the topic please share your thoughts.

The ones I’m focusing on are the GMT900 series Tahoe / Yukon 2007-2014. Might go newer if I need to.

I have to plead ignorance as I’ve never owned or driven one. I did own a Suburban but that was way back when they still had solid front axles. My reading so far indicates the front diff may be weak. Has to be a 4wd.

PS, the PW remains. That will continue to be my daily. :)

They have decent power even for the 5.3, I would avoid the 4.8 models personally. Also the 2007-2008 models still have the 4L60e 4spd automatic whereas the 2009 and newer models should have the newer 6spd auto so I wouldn't mess with the 4spd models unless you find one hell of a deal on one since they seem like real dogs with only four gears and the standard 3.42 rearend. As far as ride goes they ride great in the same class with other big SUVs. Last but not least the 2007-2014 5.3 also has cam and lifter problems just like the Hemi does so be on the lookout for that. Also its problems are caused by the AFM(MDS) system so if you do buy one I would buy a tuner and disable it ASAP. Redline is a big help here too. We run Redline 5W30 in my dad's 2008 Silverado with the 5.3(AFM also disabled) and she's quiet as a church mouse.

Benefit of the 4.8L, no MDS (or “active fuel management” AFM, as GM called it).

LM7 5.3L trucks are all standard lifters, no MDS. LM7 is the 5.3L for all GMT800 Tahoes.

The L59 5.3L didn’t land in Tahoes (or pickups) until the GMT900 platform in 2007.

4.8=weak, really too weak for a Tahoe. Anyway wasn’t the OP talking about the 3rd Gen GMT 900 2007-2014 Hoes in his first post? I’m not aware of any 5.3s in that generation that didn’t have AFM/DOD/MDS. I agree with you about the GMT 800 through and through. It was the best model out of any of them as far as dependability goes. We had a 2005 Yukon for awhile but unfortunately gas was $3.90 a gallon at that time and I only kept it for a couple years.

Looks like an SSV, too tall to be a PPV?

I’m just learning what some of these terms mean; part of the fun of a new vehicle I guess. :D Yes, it’s apparently the SSV as it’s a 4x4.

Operated by the border patrol in Texas, so it should be used to the duty I’ll put it to, which is running two tracks and Jeep trails. Specifically, the ones overgrown with brush that are pinstriping my PW!

It’s equipped with all the heavy duty options according to the window sticker reproduction the dealer supplied. I’m planning to get the build sheet as well for future maintenance needs etc. That may even be on a sticker somewhere on GM trucks as I recall. The brakes are phenomenal. I plan a small lift and 33’s.

This one followed me home today. I bet you can tell who the previous owner was. This was a one owner truck, spent it’s life in the same state it was built until retirement with only 60k on the clock.

Nice looking 'hoe. We had an '06 that's still in the family - our daughter and her family are still running it. Here's a forum i was on when i had our '06 - https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/ - pretty active forum with lots of good info.

You need to put a low profile light bar on the roof!

I have a 07. 120k miles on the clock. No issues. Uses about a qrt of oil I've 7500 miles. The ride even for a 07 is leagues above my ram including stock form and x10 on the jl. Only down fall on mine is the gearing. A re gear to 4.30 is incoming and it's going to become the tow vehicle.

I’m working on a build plan at this time, and I appreciate all the information and suggestions. Nothing too radical, I want a hybrid that’s more capable off road yet still well mannered on the highway. Probably a ~4” lift, 33’s, winch bumper. And perhaps a light bar and a green stripe. :D

I’m good to go on the powertrain I hope. It was OEM with all the HD cooling, electrical systems, 3.73, and a rear locker.
