Hey Folks,
My new-to-me ‘14 2500 CTD Laramie has the absolute worst SXM reception of any vehicle I’ve ever owned. I just got back from a few days on the road and couldn’t believe how many times I lost service. Granted, each time it lasted only a few seconds up to maybe ten seconds, but my other vehicles with aftermarket stereos and SXM receivers never lose service. My truck has the 8.4” no-nav, but nav-ready head unit.
I’m already missing Apple Car Play so will likely be swapping up to an aftermarket head unit in the near future anyway. My question is whether this is a normal “problem” with these radios. And if it is, is it likely the receiver or the antenna? When I swap receivers I’d rather adapt the factory antenna to my new receiver than to run a second one up to the roof. But if the antenna is generally thought to be the issue I’ll save some time messing with it and just run another antenna.
So what say the masses here?
Thank you,
Tom.
