LT Header Install

I just bought the Hedman Longtubes. I'm gonna wait til Fri when I get paid and also go ahead and buy the electric cutout and I'm gonna buy a 2 chamber muffler and take off my single chamber racing muffler that way once it's all on my truck, my truck won't be as loud with cutous closed, but once I open them, it will be a considerable difference and be awesome!! Should have it all installed not this weekend but next! I can't wait!

I have a Flowmaster single chamber race muffler. It's pretty loud, but at idle it's fairly quiet. I used to have it directly behindthe cab with tips but it was TOO loud; it would rattle everythin inside lol, so I moved it back towards the axle and dumped it and now it has a good rumble when I'm givin it gas but at idle it's fairly quiet. But it'd be funny to have it a little quieter and when someone is revvin at me or whatever open the cutouts and be ultra loud hahahaha

See I think the Borla I have in there is quiet, it still rumbles good but it does not have a deep tone to it. pop open the cutout though and then it is just an apmlified tone. On piece of advice with the cutout though, move it as far downa as you can. I had one right under the cab at one point and the drone in the cab was horrible. You can see how far down mine is in the system along with the muffler. I have no issues with drone with the muffler, and the drone from the cutout is significantly reduced that far down in the system.

I had a cherry bomb extreme with my lts no cats and damn was it loud!

My current setup, has a good idle tone its fairly loud but not obnoxius. Accelerating and driving is loud but not much drone.

Unless you're stuck on the flowmaster sound, you might look at Magnaflow. The 14589 I have on my truck is pretty quiet but I still get compliments on the sound. They have a cheaper 12589 that isn't stainless if you're looking to save money too.

I didnt use Stage 8's on my Pacesetter LTs but I did use Grade 8's with lock washers and have had zero issues

At the very least, go out and pick up some OEM gaskets.

I bought my headers used so they didnt come with either bolts nor gaskets. Bought the gaskets from Hensons while i was ordering other things and got the grade 8 bolts locally

Weed you used grade eights or the stage 8 lockers?

I used Grade 8 with lock washers. I paid MAYBE $10 total. No way I was going to pay $50+ for Stage 8's

Ive checked them from time to time with a 13mm and they always are tight

Are they the paper ones? Pacesetters have a paper one and getting on it a lot eventually blows them out so you end up having to pull the headers off to put on a new gasket. I know many people around my area and on various forums that have had to do this, not fun. The OEM gaskets are pretty much the best ones, $20 from the dealer. Do it once, do it right.

For bolts I have the stage 8 lockers on mine, bought them because the headers didnt have any hardware with them and because I bought the headers at such a goooooooooooooood deal (ceramic coated long tubes for $200 on craigslist never used, hells yeah), dropping a little bit of cash on them wasnt a huge deal. Ran without the locking clip on them for about 6months, no leaks, when we pulled the heads to do the cam we put the lockers on and called it a day. When we pull the heads again to do the BV's its going to be a PITA, but we'll get to it when that time comes.

The gaskets that came with it aren't the paper ones, they are really thick compared to the POS autozone type ones. I'm not sure exactly, I didn't look at em real long haha, I will check em out and see what I actually got.

I know I put those header clips on my old chevy, they were a PITA but it is a good added security lol

I've heard that Dynatech is the only brand that ships halfway decent gaskets. The ones from Hedman, Pacesetter, Kooks, etc have all been reported as crap. I picked up a set of the Mopar gaskets and they're the nicest exhaust gaskets I've seen. If I were you, I'd just spend the $20 and know you got the best. I've also heard that the header bolts stay tight with the Mopar and stage 8 bolts really aren't needed. Kooks sells a set of header bolts for about $8 or 9.
