I have an airaid CAI and I love it. Lately I've been thinking of a way to make a lid 'preferably clear' to completely seal the box. For 2 reasons. 1. I have a strong feeling that it does not seal to the hood like its suppose to. 2. I've heard that the intakes with closed boxes like s&b are quieter than ones with open air boxes which is kinda what I'm aiming for. Has anybody tried anything like this? Thoughts, ideas?

have you checked to see if it doesn't seal to the hood, easy way to check, put some calk along the box, close the hood, see if it transfers the chalk.

No I haven't. I'm sure it seals some but I want to make sure it's 100% and I don't think that will happen with an open airbox like this.

Bloombloom88, I honestly think you would be better off just selling your Air Raid and buying an S and B. I know you would be out a little bit of money, but it will probably be a nightmare to make a lid for that and it will never look as good as the S and B. Good luck.

It would be pretty easy actually. Get some lockingnuts and for the actual lid I would use lexan plastic. Pretty cheap stuff and very easy to work with. You can get it from hobby stores and online. Might need a heat gun but a hair dryer would work to. In all honesty though I'd sell the airaid and buy a s&b due to the fact it's already done and proven to performance.

It won't look pretty but will be effective in keeping heat from engine entering ur cai. Lay some fiberglass

Could you mount something on the underside of the hood to create a tighter fit? Like a shim? That way you wont have to modify the CAI

It's possible, but I'm also wanting the box closed so it makes it a little quieter when I stomp on the gas

I have an Airaid (same style as yours) on my Jeep, and S&B on my Ram. Both can be heard. I wouldn't take a loss to sell what you have if you think the S&B is going be that much quieter. It's not. Both are significantly louder than stock. After awhile, you'll get used to it. You'll forgot what stock sounds like -- until you sell or trade. Based on what I've read, Vararam may be the most quiet? That seems odd looking at the design.

Your Borla should make up the sound on the other end. (they cancel each other out) :)

Be very careful to ensure you do not restrict the availability of air to the filter through the factory fender port when you add your cover.

That Hemi will suck that tin box into a pancake if the flow is too restrictive when you get on the skinny pedal.

Actually when I stomp on it, after 3000 all I hear is the intake... Lol
