All good points and accurate, except, in Canada extended warranty is just exactly that. They do not usually include service like oil changes, they only cover repair of what breaks.
U.S. contracts do not normally include those things either, except for PPM contracts. There are laws in the U.S. that regulate warranties...They are either full warranties or limited warranties. In either case, money cannot be charged for them.

Here, these contracts are regulated by the states. While some sellers call them "extended warranties", no where in the contract will you find that term, and you won't see the big dogs advertising them that way....Because the State governments would crucify them. No time for the government to chase after the small sellers, so they get away with it.

If you search for my comments on these contracts in this forum, you'll see me, many times, stating that these are service contracts, because they are. :) I call them that because it's the proper term for them, and 20+ years working for the insurers that cover them, and their Legal departments, gives me pretty good insight into this world.

Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Thanks, I understand the distinction in terms in the United States now.
