I keep hearing Chevy guys say how bad it is for their trucks and killing motors. Is it harmful to our heavy duties? I have the programmer and been debating on shutting it off.

No. Nothing wrong with it.

I'm no expert but I think the dodge and Chevy systems are completely different designs with ours being better. Still makes me nervous, just something else to break.

Coming from the GM world, I can say the biggest problem with the DOD as they call it is the miles between oil changes on them. Longer than 5,000 miles is to far on oil in an LS engine for sure. It gets some sludge in it and it affects the lifters and the small passages for the DOD. Also long idle time is really hard on the lifters and cam. The Police Tahoe's come in all the time to my local dealer (good buddy is the head mechanic) for new lifters and cams. BUT they set at idle for hours at a time and used every day like that.

I don't know about the HD's, but I traded in my 2011 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi and it had 87,000 miles on it in 3.5 years without having any issues with the motor. The only issue it had was a broken exhaust manifold bolt. Not a MDS issue though. I think they are fine. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I have a lifetime powertrain warranty though, so I'm not worried.

It is a known problem on the GM motors with similar technology....I assume by now the issue is resolved with the GM's but not sure.
It is not a known issue on the Dodge trucks....the only issue that started in 06 when it was first used in the Rams's, is the "HEMI tick".....as far as I know the tick was not there prior to 06.

its been there since before 2006 from what I saw. i know some people that early 2000's like 2003-2004 5.7 and it ticks slightly worse than mine.

I do not see too many pre 06 rams anymore, but never recalled hearing that tick on them.....but of course you always seem to pay more attention to your own vehicle vs. others.
