What happened to the front end?

Those 3rd-gen halfton megacabs never cease to amaze me. With them 8-lug wheels and solid front axle, you’d never know it was “classified” as a 1500, especially after you debadged it...lol.

What was the deal with them? Wasn’t the only thing “1500” on those that was actually a halfton was the suspension?
