All -

Thanks in advance for the help.

I am looking to upgrade to towing mirrors on my 2018 Ram 1500, Outdoorsman. Right now, I have the basic mirrors, power adjust w defrost.

So, I am looking at aftermarket, flip up towing mirrors. I have figured out that most of these have puddle lights, turn signals and that I will likely need to use Alfaodb to change some codes. Pretty sure I have that worked out.

What I am unclear on is the temperature sensor. When I go to Amazon, for example, I see about 8 different version of mirrors. Some go up to 2016, and some include my year, but none mention the temp sensor. Occasionally in the comments, someone will ask about the sensor, or someone will mention it. Even when I look at other sites, like 1A Auto, I don't see the temp sensor specifically mentioned.

My question is - if a mirror says it works for 2018, is it fairly safe to assume it comes with the temp sensor?

If it says it will work I'd assume it would. I bought aftermarket as well dont remember brand. Had turn on all those features myself. If I remember right the temp sensor is important as I've heard if it's not in the right location it will throw the CEL.

The temp sensor moved to the mirror I believe in 2013 because of the shuttered grill option. 2014 up should have the temp sensors. Me and my son both bought the Trail Ridge tow mirrors from 1A Auto and they were perfect. Very happy. My step-father has a 2017 Laramie Longhorn with factory tow mirrors and we were parked side by side and I tried to find a difference. Other than his being chrome I could not find any difference.

And the temp sensors are included and 'should' be included on any 2013 and up mirrors

Here are the ones I bought. Mine has everything but memory. > https://www.1aauto.com/2013-18-ram-...set-trail-ridge/i/trmrp00042?f=1111811&y=2018

Much appreciation for the advice and link to the other thread.

I ended up ordering some from Amazon, but may cancel the order. The descriptions there are so random. Some will say up to 2016, others 2017, and yet others 2018. I am guessing that probably has somewhat to do with when the originally listed the product, and then never got updated.

I am second guessing myself now on not getting power fold, which is why I might cancel. I don't have that at the moment, and my first estimate was that would be several hundred more. I suspect if I had it, I would love it.

Lack of tow mirrors has always bugged me. I bought my truck when I was in a bind. I literally had one day to buy due to the failure of my prior truck about two days before vacation was due to start. Generally speaking, I love my truck and got a great deal, but have always been hard pressed to understand how Ram can call a truck an "Outdoorsman" and not have towing mirrors. Seems like a table stakes feature for a truck oriented to outdoorsman, but maybe that is just where I live.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy the cheap Chinese mirrors from Amazon. I went through 3 different brands and returned them all. Lose folding joints and incorrect wiring were the main problems. The loose folding joint will drive you nuts as the mirror's image shakes while you drive. That perceived motion in my peripheral vision was super annoying. Buy the Trail Ridge mirrors from A1A or other supplier. They are OEM quality. Also, order the OEM tow mirror reinforcement kit to further reduce vibration and strengthen the area where the mirror mounts. The longer tow mirrors need more support where they bolt to the door.

^^^. Me and my son both bought the support brackets, riv nuts and screws from @AllMoparParts.com. He is a member on here. We have absolutely 0 vibration. I have heard of people not using the support brackets and no complaints from them but when we bought our mirrors they were $499 and the bracket kit was only another $55 or so so I figured I would rather spend the extra to be safe.

Was it a kit? or did you have to search out all the parts?

@AllMoparParts.com has everything. He is a member here. Get ahold of him and tell him what you are doing and he will get you everything you need. I had him send a couple of extra riv-nuts in case I messed one up or lost one. Shipping was a little high but he helped me out with that too. The brackets are OEM Mopar. Can't remember if the screws and riv nuts were too but they are screws and riv nuts so doesn't really matter. Took me about 90 minutes to install both mirrors. I did mangle one of my riv nuts so had to get it back out. My son ordered a couple extra too but didn't need them so I had about 3 or 4 extra.

The only issue I had was that with the brackets on the studs on the mirrors barely poked through and I wasn't sure I would be able to get the nuts on. I pushed on the mirror to compress the foam weatherstrip on the mirror and that gave me enough thread. Tightened them down and there are a few threads sticking out of every nut so we were good. Oddly, my passenger side mirror was worse and the same with my sons. Only the one stud on the passenger side mirror but like I said, push on the mirror a little to compress the seal and they go right on.
