I've been seeing a new 'trend' in RV piloting lately,,, Can't call it RV driving because some of them are absolutely fricking FLYING!!!

(Usually not the silver-haired folks, but the well-to-do 'holiday weekend camping crew',,,)

At 80+ mph,,, Biff must think he's in his 'Vette!!! LOL!

We don't know how fast the RV or truck were going, so let's not jump to conclusions.

The big thing here is...

hopefully everybody in that RV is ok.

***I read the description. The occupants of the RV had minor injuries. What kept the RV from crossing into the oncoming lane was a cache barrier system.***

I saw the actual news story. The trucker said he was doing the 65 speed limit. The RV was driving too damn fast. At a lower speed, a blowout probably wouldn't have been catastrophic.

Wow! First thought- I hope they are OK and thankful they didn't get into oncoming traffic.
Second thought- what the hell were they doing driving that damn fast?? What is it about human beings that gives us this mindset that just because we UNDERSTAND physics that we are somehow immune to it?

I get a chill down my spine whenever these guys- RV, bus, semi or camper trailer, pass me like this.

Cannot stop watching. But yes, I agree. Dumb people who don't know that those RV tires are often speed rated way lower than they think. A big problem in the trucking world right now is all these high speed limits everywhere.

Too Fast for Your Tires? - On the Road - TruckingInfo.com

There’s a little-known danger on the nation’s roads from truck tires.

Nearly all truck tires are built for a maximum sustained speed of 75 miles an hour. That’s been the standard since the middle of last decade, when drivers across the vast majority of the U.S. were allowed to go no faster than 65 or 70.

But many tractor-trailers are driven faster than that. Fourteen states, mainly west of the Mississippi River, now have speed limits of 75, 80 and even 85 miles an hour in part of Texas. Some of those states acted without consulting the tire industry.

Safety advocates and tire experts say habitually driving faster than a tire’s rated speed can generate excessive heat that damages the rubber, which can lead to wrecks and blowouts.

Last month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration closed an investigation into blowouts involving certain Michelin tires after determining that truck operators, not the tires, were at fault. An investigator wrote that exceeding the 75 mile-an-hour rating was the most likely cause in all 16 complaints examined.

The blowouts resulted in three crashes but no injuries.

It's why states are passing 65 mph towing limit, which I agree with. Keep your death trap away from me.

Yep, those RVs sit for extended periods and those tires bake in the sun unless they're covered. Pulling a 5000+ lb truck, you have a civil responsibility to take it easy on the road. He could have killed people in the oncoming lanes.

It crossed over the barrier and entered the eastbound lanes.

Yep. Most of the bus ended up on the far shoulder of the EB lanes. Check out the 2nd link in 1st post. (Copied here again) http://www.wbrz.com/news/flipped-rv-closes-i-10e-past-gonzales/

Very lucky the last 2 cars in the oncoming lane weren't a second or two slower or they would have been eatin a bus,,,

Another article said it was a 69 yr old Texan,,

It's crazy the local interstates around me all went from 65 to 75 it's nice and the hemi loves it but at the same point semi's people towing trailers everyone is doing that same 75 and let's be honest I live in Texas and if the speed limit is 75 most are doing 85.
