I have lived in Riverside most of my life and have never been pulled over for mud flaps and for that matter i ran open exhaust on 85 k5 blazer with a 16" lift with 15's on 44s for 6 months before the noise was to unbearable. no ticket. most tickets are given to tuners and stoners. if you have a nice truck they will not bother but 4 diferent colored fenders a large pot leaf sticker and holding a 40 might get you stopped.

If you are gun owner double check what you own, you may have to sell it before you move if you want to stay legal.

Thanks everyone for the hospitality! I've been on google reading what I can bare. I was thinking of trading up to a cummins before I went actually. My wants are overwhelmingly beating my needs right now... Just installed my train horn too. My dad took a video of it and dropped the phone it was so darn loud. I will definitely take all your advice. I've been out there and it's not a place I want to "settle" down in. I'm a country guy and like my open space. I know that's not gonna happen. Is there a "cheap"er country style setting in the area? I don't mind a commute, I'm used to it. And I hear you homebrew, the mall queens are just the best, aren't they?! Haha. One thing is for certain I am definitely looking forward to the better motorcycle riding in Cali, even if it's a drive away. The flat grid of northeast Indiana just doesn't do it for me.

Thanks again for all the replies on hitting you guys up with questions! I'll keep ya posted on the move and how the Ram handles the drive. These Mud Grapplers are in for a real highway treat.

Oh double on that...

Good luck to ya... Moving anywhere is a big thing but we have some awesome bike and ohv trails, snow and surf all in a little drive away. that is the beauty of the state. politics are less than to be desired

BlownGP, Not only that but its so expensive to do business here for them. But Socal is the birth place to Drag Racing and alot of other Car related history so it still kinda makes sense they are here even though the controlling types took over later. Its not really too bad as much as we complain, we just have to pay more for parts that have a E0 or CARB# for no other reason than $$$ in my opinion. There is alot of orginizations like SAN (Sema Action Network) which help to fight the uphill political battle.

But as for moving, I'm kinda stuck. Cant grow rice in Nevada or Wyoming.. SO I will just live here with "illegal" mods to my truck and cars

Exactly the cost of everything is so high you would think moving to another state they would make even more money. I mean know I a lot of business are doing fine. Magnaflow, K&N all the forged rims company.

Then everything on ebay comes from California, since it's a major port from china. But I guess it works.

With that said, Socal is a beautiful place and I love going out there. There's always something to see or do, but no way in hell I would live there. lol

you could look up towards victorville / apple valley.. more open space... some small mountain ranges that get a little bit of snow in the winter.. I live 3.5 hours north along the eastern sierras.. and where I live it is gods country... no crime rate.. but like posted before local law enforcement and chp have nothing better to do. Honestly they look for the minor violations just to get u pulled over so they can meet & greet and if they think something is wrong, now they are searching your car

I live in Hesperia. It's the desert and I like it. But if you want more country setting near riverside check out Norco.

If you are going to work in Riverside but are willing to live a little farther out or at least not live in the craphole that is Riverside I can give you some ideas. Or at least my opinion.

If you have the budget I would try to live in Orange County. It is much nicer but that also comes with a price. Housing is more in OC and the towns/cities are generally much nicer as well. There are still some reasonable place in OC to live and you are still only 10-15 minutes from the beach. Many people in the Riverside, Corona, San Bernardino area (commonly called the Inland Empier or IE) work in Orange County. The traffic in the mornings going from the IE to OC is absolutely unbearable. And is just as bad going back to the IE after work. If you lived in OC and worked in Riverside the traffic is really not bad at all. You would be going the opposite way of everybody else to and from work. Depending on where in OC you would be from 15-30 miles from Riverside.

If you wanted to stay so,ethereal a bit closer look at the town/cities of Chino Hills, Temecula, Murrieta, south end of Corona. IMO, stay out of Moreno Valley, Perris, Fontana, San Bernardino, Colton, Hemet and a few others in that area. PM me if you have any questions.

do urself a favor and find a relative and register that thing out of state. riverside is la county. the cops have way more important things to do then mess with you. The smog is what's a *****.. if u are complaint" have ur cats then u should be fine. I live in a county" only a few left in Cali" where I only have to smog when I buy or sell. On the plus side you will be with in 1 hour of all kinds of speed/ performance shops and a ton of ram dealers. In so cal everyone drives like a *******, and the traffic is awful. Make sure u lock your stuff at night. Not sure how the traffic is where u are from.. but it is gonna be a eye opener. The tuner should be fine, had a Diablo on my 02 Chevy I sold and it passed smog fine. Window tint would normally be a big issue but in so cal, you will be fine. it's when you get into remote areas where they have nothing to do that u get hassled. Welcome to Cali!!!!
Lol Ratket u r so right about the socal driver , like they crab in their panties and need to go home quick to change , welcome to the communist state of California.

I lived in San diego and oceanside for 12 years or so while in the Marines...Ive had lowered cars and lifted trucks during those years and the biggest thing I ever got caught riding dirty for was limo tint all around (which I knew was way illegal in Cali) and mudflaps (9" lifted f250)...3 tickets over that whole time. Like others have said, depends on the cop and you just gotta be aware of your surroundings.

But if your gonna roll the dice and know your breaking the law, gotta be ready to pay the piper. Good luck!

You got some straight good advise. Pay difference will need to be a lot better. Life style will be much different or much better. You will decide that. Ca socialist BS rules can drive you crazy. Smog check as of 2017 is now 2 step. Inspection for any mods to factory equipment that do not have a yellow CARB sticker. Ca wants no mods. Many of our friends have tunes and they say they have passed. But get to know your smog tech. Prepare for high DMV fee's and insurance rates. Pick your community carefully. Greatest risk is as stated, high crime community's. You will never get tired of the weather. And as a a outside guy, you will love the riding. The other members are right. Many older people moving out. But,,,if this move is a great opportunity for you, find a way to live with what you don't like and enjoy those things you enjoy. Good luck.

Got a job offer in Riverside, CA. Moving from Indiana. Question is are there any crazy rules for lifted trucks I should think about? I have a 4.5" lift with a hemi. nothing crazy. I understand the emissions stuff and mud flaps are mandatory. Just curious 'cause I know Cali has strict rules for vehicles.

Anyone live in Riverside? Good? Bad?

It’s really an easy deal. Keep the truck registered in Indiana maintain a p o box there and have the mail forwarded from it to California. Keep the Indiana DL too. Now your just there for work. No smog or inspection required. Case closed.

Yeah, when you drill down on that scenario, it is a house of cards that will eventually fall on itself.

Basically he is going to be defrauding two states in some way. Either through registration taxes for the vehicles or through income tax. Never mind the fact his employer is going to be reporting him to California as employed there permanently or the fact he will have to find domicile residence through either a house purchase or renting. Then there is utilities that will have to be setup and so forth. Eventually through some transaction or even innocuous run in with the law that will want to match up his DL, insurance and registration to one address, that ruse will start to fall apart.

It is not like the OP is a snow bird, military member or frequent traveler from one state to another and maintaining another residency out of state that has some legal protections to keep one from not having to declare permanent residency. He will be living and working there permanently and will eventually be next to impossible to maintain a registration and license elsewhere.

I meant till the current tag expired. He’s already paid for the tag for the current year.
When it expires then register it in the ****** state. Hopefully it will pass their emissions testing.
I’m not talking about defrauding either state! I’m saying use what you paid for first.

I love my truck!

I don't mean to offend anybody, and I apologize if I do, but you couldn't pay me to live in that **** hole, ******, policed state. Sad thing is, just under 1/2 the people living there are just normal people like you and me and hate what their government is doing to the state and just over half are wacked out of their mind elitist and are trashing the state for the benefit of their own wealth. Beautiful land though.
