I have a 05 5.7 4x4 with 35" BFG's, flowmaster, K&N cold air and throttle body spacer. I also have E3 plugs (i wouldn't recommend). I want the best MPG's like everyone else and read on an old post to clean the TB and check the EGR. What is a TB? and What am i looking for with the EGR valve?

TB is your throttle body, carbon likes to build up in it and on the throttle plates. Give em a good scrubbing with throttle body cleaner. As far as the EGR goes, I'll let someone else chime in on that since i have no clue.

egr is a small little elbow on the motor, you can pick one up off rockauto.com for fairly cheap, two little screws and its replaced. change out your plugs with stock ones, clean the airfilter, and pull the tb(what the intake is connected to) and clean the tb. should help, also if you dont have one already get ya a superchips! adjust the tire sizes and tune the truck. it would help alot!

That pretty much covers it for the cheap stuff. If you want to get into it some more a set of 4.56 gears front and back will also help get those 35's rollin but you wont make up the cost in mpgs for a loooooooong time if at all. Its more of a fun mod than a mpg mod, the mpg's are just an added bonus

I've only seen the TB on my truck once when the intake was changed. Cleaning it is prolly something I should look into also since I am approaching 50k miles.

Welcome to the forum. :)

When I changed my stock tb for a ported one, you shoulda this is how dirty it was with only 65k miles. It takes like 5 min to clean it with throttle body cleaner from O'Reillys

I bought mine from our vendor, 3rd Strike Performance.com

Awesome price, and I could tell a big difference in throttle response with the ported one vs the OEM one... plus it is easy to install, like 5 min haha

Truthfully the 35's are probably a big culprit to your bad mileage....i put 33" mud tires on my 05 and I lost at least 1.5 mpg on the highway

def. A big plus on the gears, but it wil take a while to recoup that in gas mileage lol...but any mod cost money.

Do the superchips first, work on gears second if cost is an issue. Gears will run over a grand, superchips is around $250 or so. Large tires though take more to move, gears will help out a lot there. I'd do them both in the end though.
