4.7 lifted 36s. I use premium fuel only. Change the oil monthly and use Sea Foam every other month. I do need to clean the TB out though.

is a programmer what i am in need of? I have been looking at superchips. I found a sc3815 used for 175. should i go with that or buy a new 3865?

A programmer will help. The Superchips has a fuel economy setting. As others have stated, the maintenance will also help with mpg's as well as longevity. However, with these trucks...you'll never get "great" mileage.

I have the 3815, 175 isnt bad as long as its unlocked. If it's locked to a VIN # still, Superchips charges $100 to unlock it for you.

But yeah, with these you aren't gonna be pullin in Honda Civic mpgs lol

I keep up with my maintenance and use lucas every couple of tanks. This was the first time cleaning my TB though. I know I cant expect too much i just want to get the absolute best MPGs with what I have. Its not like I would sell my truck or anything...!
what would i be missing out on if I bought the 3815 as opposed to the 3865?

The only differences I know of is with the 3815, you can't get as many updates when you connect it to your computer. Oh, and you can't tune your tranny like you can with the 3865 ( i think )

You could try a search on that on here and I'm sure you'll find out all the pros and cons

Get the newer one for the trans options unless you plan on digging into the motor and will be in need of custom tuning.

I agree, I wish I had gone with the 3865 just to have the option there if you want it :)

To add to this, on all of the tuners I have used, the econo tunes (87oct) have never given me the better mpg's most of the time I either stayed the same or lost some. The best tunes for mpg for me have always been the performance tunes (91oct +) and its generally been by over 2mpg over no tune and the econo tunes.

Now some can argue cost of gas vs performance tunes but if you really do the math on it, for a full tank of gas its about the cost of a bigmac value meal (usually .20c per gallon difference).

^^ I took his advice and I run mine on Performance 91 tune on 93 octane. Its just a few dollars more to fill up, but I do get a couple more mpgs. On a 2.5 hr drive I pulled in almost 19mpg on the highway.... not bad haha!

Same here, I always run the performance tune with the high octane gas.
