I've always believed that (most) tire makers are far smarter than us...they make different tires for a reason.
Passenger all-season, Passenger snow. Passenger summer only, LT all season, MT...
All serve a purpose, all have a specific design.
I saw it posted earlier about winter tires and they're staying soft in the winter...and they do. winter only tires will make a vast majority of vehicles snow plows, I know this first hand. Run them in the summer and you're going to shred the things.
So...most of us can't afford to have two sets of tires, so we go to either P or LT all season tires.
MT tires are not designed as a good solution for all terrain, all season driving.
Back on topic. I agree with everyone, MT looks cool...much cooler than AT tires. I opted for Toyo Open Country ATII -vs- the much "cooler" looking MT of the same line. In the end, I'll get better mileage, a more quiet ride and unless I go off road, better handling.
As for snow driving...I took my truck out on the worst snow day we had last year...which was 6.1" that day that had tapered off by 4pm or so. I went for a drive in the country (thank god for snow markers...the road was completely gone) and in 25mph winds with blowing drifting snow. About as bad as it normally gets here in Illinois.
In 4WD my truck performed perfectly with the ATII tires...I was impressed.
