so...i was driving home last night....all of a sudden a loud bang in engine, lost oil pressure and truck shut off while driving. I couldn't get it started again for about 10 minutes. I now have no oil, no oil pressure, seems like something is seized up, and oil is spraying off the pulley's. I think i might be screwed. Any ideas???

I really can't afford a new truck right now....they are insanely expensive here in Canada and no 0% financing here. I dunno i'm super upset by this.

I only have 130,000 KM on it (about 70k miles) I'm quite shocked this type of engine failure could happen with so little use on it. any ideas?

Crawl around underneath it and look for any holes in the side of the block,if it's not turning over and there's oil everywhere something might of let go,like a rod and decided to exit the block. If you find any odd looking new holes in the side of the engine,i'm sorry to say, you're *****'d,lol

Sounds like it possibly dropped a valve seat and cratered a rod and piston.

I've got a good short block assy for 2009 up with 120k miles on it, but I'm in Houston, Tx. Shipping might be too much into Canada.

Did it ever start again?

Try rotating the crankshaft with a large socket and breaker bar.

Honestly, it doesn't sound good but it could be something on the top end vs. a rod or piston if the engine still rotates.

Sounds like you had a catastrophic engine failure since you lost the oil. If it were mine, I would start calling salvage yards to find another engine. Shouldn't be hard to find a low mileage 5.7. I did a engine swap a couple years ago for my father in law. Took about a day and a half since it was all plug and play. He had about $2800 in the entire swap. The new engine only had 18k on it.

The loud bang may have been something in the road flying up and hitting your oil pan. I ran over a set of Dial Calipers someone lost and they punched a hole in my gas tank. Just lucky, I guess.

ya engine still starts for now...but without any oil i don't want to run it. I'm going to get some oil and put it in...and then take it to a shop for a diagnosis.
