Maybe the title is a bit exaggerated...But there is a small amount of rust starting to form.

It all started about a month or two ago...I opened my door carelessly and it kind of raked across a tall metal fence. I instantly shut the door a little and checked for damage but it didn't look noticeable at all so I just went about my life and forgot all about it.

Now on the other hand, it is becoming noticeable! I'm asking for some advice from my fellow RAM brothers on how to fix it.

I'm looking for the simplest and easiest fix for this problem. I don't have a lot of time on my hands or money in my pockets. Anybody got any suggestions?

I am not a Body Tech. I am going to tell U what I would do:

1: Sand out entire affected area. Using heavy than light grit than fine grit.
2: Prime coat area, may need 2 coats
3: Get exact match touch up and touch up, 2 coats
4: Clear coat, after paint dry and cured, at least 2 coats affected area
5: Once all dry, good wax...

(But this is what I would do if not having professionally done).

Personally, I'd go to an office supply store and buy a small aggressive eraser and clean the chipped area. Then just go to the dealer and get the touch up paint for the truck. About $17 and you get both color and clear in the same container. Build up the chips with several thin coats using the included brush and see how you like it.

If you need it to look better, sand with 800 grit and use the clear coat over it. You can then either sand or buff. If you take your time with thin coats it should look pretty good without the sanding.

I would paint it all up (basically to seal it and prevent short term spread of rust) then I wrap those pillars in a gloss black vinyl for a nice outer appearance.

Repair the paint. Then get the door edge moldings to prevent it from happening again. Clear or Black, your choice.

I agree you can also get touch up paint off amazon. Bought some months ago to fix a rock chip on the hood.

Get some evapo rust or whatever it’s called in a grey jug from Home Depot. I don’t think it affects paint (read the label before use)but be careful, apply with qtip and let it convert the rust. Clean the rust converter stuff with brake clean on a paper towel carefully. Then use touch up paint and clear. Don’t sand it bc it will sand the good paint. Your just stopping the rust and covering it to protect it.
