Been going at it with the concrete guys, I wanted a density test done on the slab or a core sample taken and they wouldnt do it unless I paid 400 bucks and that wasnt going to happen so we have been arguing back and forth forever it feels like.
I said ok then sign a contract that states you are liable for any and all damages that may occur from the slab which of course they wouldnt so we kept arguing.
Then they said you know what, we are going to take the slab out tomorrow and that's it were done we want no part of this so I said ok cool give me the full 10,400 refund and I'll pay my friend to do it I would rather support his company. Of course they just said that as a scare tactic because once I said great let's do it they back peddled hahaha. So finally I got them to agree on paying for the density test to be performed so that is going to happen next week, if it fails then they agreed to tear it out and repour at 0 extra which I already got like 65% or so off the bill, if it passes then i still pay no extra and they finish filling the cracks and staining and coating.
It took like two weeks of arguing to get this and man I am burnt out, been going through the building process for a long time now with the house and shop. But we are almost finished

Be all worth it when the reception happens and then when you get your lift in there and start working on your stuff in that garage!

I honestly think that sometimes they try on purpose to wear you down. Contractors seem to be a different "breed". There are some really good ones that are pretty responsive to your "instructions" and there are others that it is like pulling teeth to get them to do what you(the paying customer) wants done. I usually go from 0 to really pissed off when I deal with some of them. I feel your pain----
Jay
It's some kind of control thing. After you establish what you want, they agree to do it for a set price, then they refuse to do it that way, do a bad job, and or demand more money. It's why I do a lot of things myself. No need to pay for a crappy job I can do that myself. I put off a lot of projects that I can't do myself because I don't want to deal with the b.s.

Yeah to all of you haha it has been exhausting dealing with it all. I'm not the one to accept being ripped off or taken advantage of so I stand up to all the crap they pull, but wheweeee it is a lot of crap! I can see the finish though it's almost there [emoji1305]

I also like to do as much as I can, but I have finally realized what my limitations are and have had to swallow my pride and just say, I don't have the tools or the know how to do whatever, and had to call someone else. It sure has been an expensive lesson though--as I'm a little hard headed and stubborn--LOL

O yeah me too, I absolutely do as much as I can on my own. Not only to save money but I also enjoy doing things myself and learning new stuff. But something like building a shop I am not even going to think of attempting [emoji1787]

Been following this thread from the beginning...

**** gets real as soon as you start threatening their insurance and bond.

I deal with contractors EVERY day. the real key is documentation; it sounds like you, or maybe more accurately your wife (? ;)) is all over that. I'd be willing to bet that Oregon has some pretty stiff consumer laws favoring the consumer as well.

As stated above, if you don't let them wear you down, I'd bet you'll end up just fine.

Ceiling is all finished. Only thing left that I can think of is the concrete work, still waiting on the density test. It's so so hard to not start doing things inside. I have a awesome steel peg board set I want to hang up so bad, I got it long enough to go from beam to beam so I'm going to put up a few 2x4's from beam to beam and hang em off those, a triple tap cord reel and some air hose reels. Have to wait until after the wedding to do anything [emoji31]a03960dae1b2e23332de4d2f581b442a.jpg75f04aedff03232b4a0d3dd4dda66350.jpg

Popped the shops cherry this morning to do a quick ceramic detox/renew. Yesterday the concrete inspector came out and I loved him, he was calling everything out and making my builder look like a idiot so it felt great [emoji23] he ran multiple tests including shooting pins through it and density hammers and even dragging a chain across it listening for noises, using a level, all kinds of stuff. The finding is the slab is perfectly solid, it meets all density levels and is ok. However he said there were many aesthetic mistakes and issues like the obvious cracking which he said just like my buddy said, from not enough joints and spacing them correctly, but also what is called curling. The slab has large size humps all over the one side that you cant make out with the eye but with a level it clearly has humps which he called curling. He also said the majority of the cracking is done but will probably still crack a little more. Anyway we are now moving forward with the filling and coating and then shop is finished. Airline was also installed over head so I have one valve on front and back wall as well as a drop down overhead. I will update once the coating starts 8dfd561476dea16bf352d8f32839d99f.jpgc5825b4dc7421147dcf1f22778d2003c.jpga4159fad3233000ea501f6f642672c89.jpg

Ram, you are on the down hill, slide to the finish. You have been disciplined about staying focused on the shop floor. Preserving the appearance for the wedding reception. Made great choices that you will appreciate once you have the shop "set up" What a great contrast from the asphalt to the shop. We know you will stay smart and rise above the concrete contractor. Curious,,,how are the door roll up motors working. I had my door guy get me a cost to convert my overhead power-head to wall mount. Wanted to see how yours turned out.

Sorry for late response, absolutely love the motors. They came with motion sensor led lights and automatic locks so you never have to worry about remembering to lock the door or a light. They go up and down fast and smooth and super quiet, love them
