I have the 8.4 NA head unit. I have it set to "auto", but at night the nav screen doesn't toggle to the dark screen. I tried it manually and it works then. Am I missing something?....I read online in a Durango forum about the dimmer switch needing to be out of the "parade" setting. What does that mean? Thanks for the help.

Your interior/dimmer switch has two "click" settings. If you scroll all the way to the left the dash lights will go black. If you scroll right until it stops, before it clicks the first time, this should dim your display when the lights come on. If you go to the first click (right), it will leave your display brightness as it is in the daylight, regardless if your lights are on or not. If you go to the right on the second click the interior lights will come on. If I remember correctly, set it to just before the first click and it should dim with lights on. Hope that made sense.
