I'm looking at the n-fab 6 step for my 2014 CC. I was searching and noticed some said they don't install that we'll and you have to drill holes on the inside of the body. I also saw one guy say they are adjustable (how close you can get them to the bottom of the body) and that they can slip because of the way they mount...

I am curious to hear reviews of them and the install.

Thanks in advance.

installed a 6 step set six months ago and work out of the truck so they get a lot of use and no problems.

No drilling just a direct bolt on accessory.

No drilling . . . Just bolt-on . . . Only thing I would recommend is going to Fastenal or McMaster-Carr and getting XHD thicker washers

I have these, no drilling, strait bolt on... great steps. They tuck up under the truck out of the way, and from what I've seen they're pretty tough. I take a lot of dirt and gravel roads and rocks are always getting picked up in the tires and thrown at the steps. They haven't chipped or scratched yet! had a different cheaper set from amazon on my 13 and regretted them every day, decided to spend the extra cash and do it the right way on my 14 and I'll never go back lol

Fastenal is just an industrial supply house for fasteners. You may not have one in your town. Not sure Home depot carries what I bought either.
It's been a while, but I think those are 1/2" bolts ? When I say XHD, I just mean Extra Heavy Duty. Go to McMaster-Carr and search this item (91117A225). You want a larger diameter, and for sure a thicker washer. The ones that come with the kit just bend way too easy for my liking. I'm a mechanical engineer, so I have a tendancy to "overdesign" things, just to be safe. If a tornado hits Uniontown Ohio, I'm pretty sure half my neighbors will be running under my back deck.

Hey OP,
I'm actually looking for these exact 6 steps from N-Fab for my CC as well.
It was the installing reviews I read that mentioned drilling that put me off them. I was also told if you don't have OEM side steps, I need rivnuts? if someone can clear this up as well.

Reading the above comments from people that actually have them is changing my mind. These are the only steps that really appeal to me and I would love to have them installed.

No, the install kit comes with the clip-nuts you need . . . 2 in each opening . . . 6 on each side . . . Those work really well . .. You may have to peel the tape off of the opening in the frame where they go

While I don't have the N-Fabs I do have the 6 step ranchhands. Love those things. No problem on slipping just like the others have mentioned. Make sure when you order them you let them know your bed size.

I have had two sets of N-Fabs in the past year on my QC. The first set was cab length, powder coated. I replaced them under warranty when the powder coat peeled, causing the boards to rust prematurely. When installing that set, I had to grind notches into the end of the clips to get them to seat into the pre-drilled holes. Outside of that, everything bolted together fine.

I replaced the powder coated units with a set of wheel to wheel stainless units. The new set came with a set of clips about 1/2 the length of the other set, which would have required drilling a new hole at each mounting point to make them fit, so I passed and reused the others.

I doubled up on washers at each bolt point after detecting a tin-like vibration from the cab on the stainless units. This seemed to solve that issue. It may be just me, but the stainless N-Fabs seemed thinner and lighter than the powder coated units.

I'm confused here. Some people seem to have to drill, and others don't? Never thought buying a pair of side steps would be so confusing lol.
