Went to the dealership today to get a recall done on the tailgate latch on 2018 RAM. And I had them to look at my navigation system. About five days ago , was on a trip and got into the truck and I noticed all of my preset stations were gone. Put on my maps to get to my next location and find I'm in El Paso TX. What???? I live in Oregon. They tried to do a reset but nothing. So now a waiting period as they had to email the corporation to see what they will do about it. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have read that the default location is around San Antonio when the GPS antenna fails.

My truck has that same issue. Has been going on since March. I live in CO and it has me in Wyoming. Traveled to Utah, and Arizona, through NM and back up to CO and it had me circling in WY. Went to the dealership and they couldn't figure it out. They were going to replace the radio but Chrysler said no, that it was a software issue. The dealership started a work order with Chrysler. Chrysler told our dealer it was a known issue they were working on. To date they have no fix and it continues to do the same thing. I had no idea it would take so long to get a fix for a "known issue". I'm not happy. I use the truck to pull an RV and travel. I can't believe I paid $$$$ for a truck specifically to pull my RV and I have this issue. Yes, I can use my phone with it's tiny screen with other GPS maps, but that's beside the point. I want the one in my expensive truck to work like it is supposed to. Right now that Ford with the Ultimate camera package, bumper step, and fold up back seats is looking good....

Hi Robert,

I believe there is a TSB for this particular concern. Can you send me your VIN within a direct message so I can look further into this?

Thanks,

Finally got things going thanks to Jasmine from Ram Social Care Specialist. After a couple of trips to the dealer for them to try different things from reset, power down to diagnostics of the system, then leave the truck there for them to try other things. Found it was a no go. So after a week they told me that I have a new navigation radio on order. So if others on here has had any problem, you may be looking to have the same thing done.

I have the same problem with my 2018 Ram. My dealer has been waiting on an answer for about three months. I went in today also for the tailgate latch and we are still waiting for an answer on my navigation system. Very frustrating.

Well got a call to come into the dealer to have my new navigation unit installed. Got there and was waiting. Said it would take a got hour or so. 20 minutes later they come in to the waiting room to tell me that they got the wrong radio. WHAT??? Here we go again.

I have a different problem with my gps in my 2018 Ram 2500. I noticed last week my gps had me go a different route to the airport in Cedar Rapids Iowa usually a 1.5 hr drive. I decided to use the new route on the way back and it took me down a 20 mile dirt road that is parallel to the highway. The settings are set up correctly (no unsaved roads). I then left for Florida and it didn’t want to go down any highways. I used google maps on my phone and it was 5 hours shorter. It said the same thing on the way back.

I'm guessing that you meant "no unpaved roads." It might be worthwhile to go back and undo some of the settings and see if that gets the system back to common sense choices. You should be able to step through a trip and see what the system has chosen.

I removed all the settings in my navigation and then replaced them. I have it set to take toll roads and no unsaved roads. It still wants to take me off highways and will still take me down dirt roads instead of a highway

Personally, I would remove your settings and see what it does without your settings except for selecting the fastest way. It seems like it’s doing something backwards.

Added: I had a couple instances of the navigation in either a '13 or '17 1500, can't recall, when it changed to "shortest" route all by itself, apparently. I didn't catch it until I was on the way somewhere and I had already made too many turns to just go back on my own. I always check the route now by stepping through the trip that is in the system and seeing what the choices are. BTW, your entry again says "no unsaved roads." Do you mean that or "no unpaved roads" as your setting?

I checked mine and it had changed to shortest also. I will now verify it’s on fastest. Thanks, that was perfect! (I did man unsaved roads)

I updated my maps to the 2018 release. I now have the back roads issue. The nav is totally useless now. What a waste of money and time. I called HERE customer service. They claim the GPS needs recalibrated.

If you mean that the system defaults to "shortest route," then go in and choose "fastest."

Update--------5 months and still waiting on my new radio. They did get one in but found out they had ordered that wrong one. Now Im told that a new one has been shipped. Thinking to my self if that they had ordered thru Amazon it would have been here already. LOL One of the things about the radio that I realize that sucks is the AM. Here in Oregon they have the games of the Oregon State football, Trail Blazers Basket Ball team and Talk shows, being played on AM 1190 KEX. Now I live on the Coast and it is about a little over a 100 miles to Portland. I have a mountain range that I drive thru to get into Portland. Now the Ram radio I can't get reception of the AM Station until Im over the mountains and into the valley. My wife has a Honda Fit and that radio will pick up the AM station with in about 5 miles from the coast, all the way thru the mountains. Yes I have XM but at times I like to listen to the local stations herein Oregon. So a little Honda Fit radio will out perform as 50,000 dollar Ram Navigation system. Hmmmmm
