May sound weird, I know. Here are the specifics.

I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Sport 5.7L Hemi 6’4 bed with 21500 miles. It just doesn’t have all the Sport bells and whistles (push button start, dual auto A/c, no sunroof, etc.) Still a very nice truck. Should be able to get around $31,000 On the trade in.

Looking at a 2016 Ram 1500 Sport, 57,000 miles, same engine, except it has the 5’7 bed plus all the above mentioned bells and whistles.... for sale for $29,500.

I kind of like the short bed look a little more, although the 6’4 bed is definitely more practical for hauling stuff. However I don’t really haul that much.

Am I nuts to trade ho to a much higher mileage truck just for the sake of appearance plus some extras I really wanted?

Pics below to compare.

Apart fron a leveling kit and a detailing job they look the same on the outside. Keyless go is nothing special imho. Yes the climate control and sunroof are nice, but yes. Nuts. Unless you have a lemon.

I would wait to find something with less miles that you like. There’s no sense rushing into a trade since your current truck has no problems.

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas

They look the same. If I was you I would get another generation or a different type of truck if your gonna swap.

Besides for the sunroof all of the other stuff can be added dual climate is very capable
They make kits it to add keyless go
If you want a 8.4 inch screen with the Apple CarPlay that can be done
When you make a trade like that
You’re losing big in the end

Sun roof = potential leak
We had 3 veh in the family by 3 different mfr's. All 3 developed leaks.

Mileage difference = Big negative

Push button start = nothing burger

5'7" bed looks goofy on ANY 4 door truck

All up to you. How bad you want something determines whether or not it's "worth it" to you.

I'd walk away.

Thanks all. Was leaning towards keeping my ride but as was mentioned above.. sometimes those voices in the head don’t stop yapping.

Appreciate the good advice!

Keeping my sweet ride

Stay with your truck unless you are upgrading to a new truck brand...other than a sunroom, the other options can be added.
Even if you do upgrade, check out this forum’s area and other truck makers’ forums for the good/bad points other owners have mentioned (check YouTube as well).

Some love their truck & some hate them.

If you do upgrade, stealerships are getting desperate because 12/31/19 is coming as well as more trucks. Any 2019s on their lot after 12/31/19 means the stealership will owe the tax man....no one wants to pay additional taxes.

Just curious, have you looked more online? Depending on where you are in VA, low mileage 2016-2018 Sports seems to run about $35,000 fully loaded.

Trading basically even for an older truck with nearly 3 times the miles would be nuts, IMO.

If you trade you are trading down. There is NO WAY I would trade down . Plus the fact it is a 5.7 bed is a total deal breaker . What good is a 5.7 bed you just as well go buy a Durango if you want a 5.7 bed.I would make my RAM the way I want it and not trade down. But that is me.
