Hi all,

I’ve got a 2016 1500 2WD with the Maxtrac 4.5”/3” kit. I still have about an inch of rake and it’s causing my front tires to run a tad with 35’s. So my question is can I convert the front to work with shocks and get the 2wd bilsteins from Maxtrac or is a spacer my only option? Maybe longer coils? Thanks.

Fairly certain you could do the Bilsteins.

This is the response I got from Sean over at Maxtrac when I asked the same question a few weeks back. I dont see why bilsteins wouldn’t work either ...

Your truck has shocks at each wheel

Well, I will open my mouth and insert my dirty sock. Weird, most everything is a strut nowadays...I will crawl back in my hole and pull it closed around me....

Do your shocks just sit inside your coils?

I had front shocks when I had my front level but I don’t think I have front shocks with my current setup. Which was always peculiar to me

Not right. Shocks are absolutely needed on all 4 wheels. Double check and then get some shocks on there if they are not already

2wd coils mount to the upper spring perch and extend and mount to the lower control arm. So the shock doesn’t connect or alter the coil in any way. The 5100’s for 4wd is a strut type shock. The coil mounts up top with the bils inside but the coil is shorter and mounts on the bottom half of the bilstein. The Bilstein then mounts to the lower control arm. Thats the difference.

So the guys over at Maxtrac have no idea what they’re talking about?? What’s the premise behind them offering a kit with no front shocks?

So what your saying is Bilsteins up front won’t be adding any height for me?

Correct. Think your choices are spacers or coils

What would be my options for coils? I can’t see there being any cool out there that’s 1 inch longer than my current coil

I dont know what they offer or what they expect an installer to do. All im saying is you NEED a shock per wheel.

NEED

Well I do have their upgraded spindles that are for more beefier than stock and mevotechs. What’s the gripe with having no front shocks? I haven’t had problems so far, so I’ll play devils advocate here.

I honestly don’t know. I would think a simple spacer would handle it provide your ball joints wouldnt be all jacked up

Yeah I don’t think I there would be a problem there. My UCAs and ball joints are upgraded

Unless its a coil-over system, there should be shocks in it. If you didnt have shocks on it now you would be bouncing all over the place. Turn the wheel out and snap a pic of it and post it

I’ll get a photo of it tomorrow.
