I need to order new rear shocks for my truck. I was thinking about trying Fox shocks, but the set I was looking at online says they work with a 5" lift and I have a 6" suspension lift.

Looking for suggestions on rear shocks for a lifted truck...

Thanks guys!

I have lifted rear fox resevoir shocks, ride is horrible. As stiff as riding in a dump truck. There is a reason fox sells the same shock with a $140 option to add an adjustable compression knob, to soften or stiffen the ride.
I would get bilsteins in the rear.

I have fox shocks on the rear of my stock Ram. Ride is great! Especially when towing. Very controlled.

40xxx miles is all I got out of both pair of rear Foxes I have owned. Love the front coil overs but am less than impressed with the rears. Stock height truck with 25% overload rear springs.

I have Bilsteins with my BDS. I could have gotten FOX shocks but read here a few said they weren't valved right for our trucks and were real soft/bouncy.

Bilstein 5100 46MM rear shocks P/N 33-185569 (2x)
superlift bushing kit 77-80038 (2x)

You have to buy the bushing kit from superlift, just call and order over the phone, you need qty 1 per shock and they are about $6 a kit. You can also just buy the Bilsteins with bushings from superlift.

Thanks for the response. I have Pro Comp shocks now and they only lasted 40K miles.

I think I'll do some more research on Bilsteins.... Maybe Skyjacker...a friend has them on his lifted Ram and likes them.

Awesome! Thanks for all the reply’s!! It helps out so much. I wonder if bilstein has that same shock but just an inch or so longer. With 7.5” in the rear, I don’t want to be maxing our the shocks length.

If I’m not mistaken I believe the fox shock #98224759 from BDS Is just a bit longer on both compressed and extended length. Just thinking out loud here lol

PS
I’m surprised that my procomps wore out so quickly. The monotube prorunners were suppose to be one of the company’s more premium shocks.

Depending on the lift the OP has maybe some one can point in the right direction for fox shocks as I’m in the same boat. My truck has a 6” pro comp lift but as we all know that is only 3” if lift in the rear so I would need the shock to fit this type lift.

OP is this what you have as well or do you have a true 6 inches in the back of your truck?

Not sure where you got that number, I show the correct rear fox number as 98450759

FOX are 30.05 extended and collapsed 18.46 travel of 11.6

Bilstein are 29.7 extended and collapsed 17.91 travel of 11.8

So yes FOX are 3/8" longer

JB1 - How are these Billys holding up on your truck? With it being slightly shorter, have you noticed any hyper extension of the shock? Unless going on some really off camber off roading spots, I can't imagine 3/8 of an inch being an issue...

I ordered the shocks from Amazon for about $60 a piece, and the bushings from Superlift (shipping to Hawaii killed it for me). Price came out to slightly less than the Fox upgrade, so I think this is a good way to go. My OCD is happy as well because the fronts and rears will now match.

The rear Bilsteins shocks are holding up just fine, I haven’t had any issues at all and I’ve had them about 14 months now.

I’ve read reviews here on the Fox shocks, some here have said they were too soft/bouncy, some said way to stiff and some members love them. I just went with the Bilsteins to have a matching set. I haven’t personally tried the rear Fox shocks.

Air pressure in the tires have a very big say in how your truck rides also. Air is free to experiment with, an an empty truck needs no wheres near as much air pressure as a loaded truck does especially a light 1500. I have bilstein 5100 and the same brand shock one of my Wranglers, they are not known as a soft shock. Unfortunately in the Ram world ya don't have as many choices as we with the Wrangler.

What size of lift do you have in the rear? Just the suspension part not counting body lift

Me?

I don’t have a body lift, only the 5” BDS coils
Cool..... one other question why do you need a bushing kit for these shocks. I’m just asking because I’ve have purchased several bilstien products in the past and have never had to use a bushing kit.
