I have a 2004 Dodge ram 1500 4x4, I was driving off road and in 4. When I got back on to the road I took it put of 4 and now my back tires drag when I make a turn (more then one turn if the wheel) it will not move on its own in drive when the wheel is turned and when I hit the gas it jumps and the wheels drag. I know it is out of 4 wheel drive but the back is acting like it I not. I have looked at the brakes they are not locking. I hope that someone can tell me what is wrong. As well the power steering is making some sounds when the truck is locking up. I know it is coming out of 4 because off road they do not spin. Thank you for your help.

I am not an expert by any means, and if I am understanding you correctly my guess would be you shelled the rear end, or if it has a limited slip diff, the clutch packs have failed, (again probably toast). I would drop the rear diff cover and see what comes out.

Hopefully someone else will jump in with somemore knowledge. good luck.

I seen the same problem in a 2500 but it was a transfer case issue. It would a ply power to front but lock the rear. If the rear end its the issue drop the rear drive shaft and see if you can move the out put shaft on the transfer case, Remember to put both the trans and transfer case in neutral. Good Luck.
